Lakers explain why they appointed a head coach with no NBA coaching experience

Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss explained the appointment of J.J. Redick as the club's head coach. The 40-year-old Redick spent 15 years in the NBA as a player, but he has no coaching experience.

“This time we wanted to take a different approach. Redick has a clear vision. I'm not quite comfortable diving into the details of basketball, but we were looking for someone who could bring a new perspective. Developing young talent is a priority, and Redik is the right person to do that. I would like to let the results speak for themselves rather than exaggerate this move.

We need to give JJ time to realize his vision. I am really impressed with the staff he has assembled. He is holding voluntary training sessions. The fact that the players come to them speaks volumes. With experienced assistants like Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks, JJ has the support he needs to make a smooth transition to the head coaching role. His 15-year career in the NBA has given him the experience and insight he needs to lead this team,” Buss said.

Boston Celtics legend Kevin Garnett believes in the success of the Phoenix Suns in the next NBA season.
“Phoenix got the sixth seed in the playoffs last season, and it was what we call a terrible year for them. But now Devin Booker can become the NBA MVP. Bradley Beal can also become an MVP. These guys, they will do well in the fight for the title. And then there's Kevin Durant on this team,” Garnett said.

Shaquille O'Neal doubted that J.J. Redick was the right fit for the Lakers

The 40-year-old former NBA player is making his head coaching debut.
"You have LeBron's respect, but what about the other guys? It will be a challenge. I'm not sure I could play for a guy who I played against just four or five years ago.

I have nothing against JJ, but I think Sam Cassell should be in the running," Shaq said.

Cassell, 54, played in the NBA from 1993 to 2008. He became a two-time champion with Houston and won another title with Boston. He has worked as an assistant for Washington, the Clippers, Philadelphia, and last season was a member of the Celtics coaching staff.

Philadelphia Sixers forward Paul George is critical of the words of Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, who said that Michael Jordan was “the only one who really had skill” when he won his titles in the 1990s.

“I think it's disrespectful to the game, a very immature comment. Of course, Anthony Edwards is very talented and will continue to develop his talent. But we owe the current state and growth of basketball to those who have done it before, and we have to give them credit,” George said.

Earlier, Edwards received criticism from NBA legends of the past decades Magic Johnson, Kevin Garnett, Dennis Rodman and others.

Shaquille O'Neal names two worst players in the NBA

NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal has named Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert and Brooklyn Nets forward Ben Simmons as the worst players in the league.

“The worst player in the NBA? Rudy Gobert. Ben Simmons is just another lazy guy. If you sign a contract for $250 million, then show me a $250 million game. I walk around funny, I can't turn my head because I played for my 120 million. And here are guys who got the system, got the money and can't play at all. I don't respect them. These are direct facts. Teachers, firefighters, doctors have real jobs, but they get nothing,” O'Neill said.
