😷🌐At the onset of the #covid19 pandemic, warnings of an impending doom for the startup ecosystem were unbridled. hose largely faded after the initial shock of the coronavirus wore off. Now, as the new reality of isolation supercharges the adoption of tech products and services, the sentiment has flipped even further — in to a frenzy of deal making.
💥This frenzy helped startups amass $36.5 billion in funding in the Q3, up to 30% more from the previous year, according to CB Insights. Startups have raised 223 “mega-rounds” of $100 million or higher so far this year, on a pace to surpass last year’s total, according to PitchBook Data.
💸The boom is being fueled not just by higher demand for digital products and services. Low interest rates are pushing investors to seek returns in ever-riskier assets and venture firms have raised record levels of capital!

The VC industry continues to be very active against the pandemic headwinds. In Q3, we saw lots of deal activity and ample deal values, enough to top last year’s numbers. We’ll be particularly diving deeper into what’s driving the massive expansion of late-stage activity as well as the exit environment, both of which are booming!
👉Global VC deal value reached $84bn in Q3, a 34% jump since Q2, and a 39% increase from the same period last year.
👉At $1.9 Billion, Seed Funding In Q3 Was Down Only 8% Since Last Quarter
👉Early-Stage Funding Also Racked Up $14 BN Deal Value In Q3
👉Late-stage total deal value dropped only 2% since last quarter with 1050 rounds raising $33.7 billion.
In conclusion, in Q3 there was a shift in Capital and instead of correction, Investors are risk-adjusting their portfolios, allocating capital into later-stages vs. earlier-stages, and into hot industries vs negatively affected industries.
