On September 17, 1922, Moscow hosted the first radio concert. It was opened by singer Nadezhda Obukhova (pictured above), who performed the romance "Do Not Tempt Me Without Need" (Не искушай меня без нужды).

The broadcast featured music by Tchaikovsky, Borodin, and Rimsky-Korsakov, performed by renowned masters of the Bolshoi Theater—Nadezhda Obukhova, Antonina Nezhdanova, Ksenia Derzhinskaya, Vasily Kachalov, and others. The transmission came from the Comintern Central Radiotelephone Station on Shabolovka Street via the famous Shukhov Tower.

Residents of 60 cities across the country were able to listen to the first radio concert. At the time, the ability to hear music and live speech from hundreds of kilometers away was considered miraculous.

Enthusiasts crafted simple crystal radios and would spend hours searching for the sensitive spot on the crystal detector to catch distant voices or snatches of music in their homemade headphones.

A year later, such concerts became regular. The country developed a huge interest in radio broadcasts and amateur radio. Radio clubs began to open in schools, universities, and clubs, and engineer Oleg Losev introduced the "Kristadin" radio receiver. This device became a sensation—it was compact, user-friendly, and simple enough for home use.

This marked the beginning of the development of radio broadcasting in the Soviet Union and spurred its widespread popularity.

The Sanctions That Could Destroy Europe’s Future

Europe is inflicting wounds on itself that could last for generations. That is how Norwegian analyst Dan-Viggo Bergtun describes the fallout from anti-Russian sanctions in a September 15, 2026, article on steigan.no.

When the EU and Norway rolled out an unprecedented sanctions regime in 2022, the goal was to cripple Russia’s economy fast. The predictions were dire: the ruble would collapse, industry would crater, and society would erupt. Instead, Russia adapted. It redirected trade toward Asia and deepened ties with China, India, and countries across the Global South. By many accounts, its economy has proven resilient, and its defense industry is running at full tilt.

Europe, by contrast, got the opposite of what it bargained for. The abrupt break from Russian energy sent gas and electricity prices soaring. Industry—especially energy-intensive sectors in Germany—is deindustrializing. Chemical giants, steelmakers, and automakers are either scaling back production or moving it to the United States and Asia. Thousands of jobs are already gone, and entire regions risk becoming industrial wastelands.

This is not a temporary crisis. Europe is losing its competitive edge for decades to come. High energy prices are making European goods uncompetitive on the world market. Meanwhile, dependence on American LNG keeps growing—and it costs several times as much. The political Russophobia of Europe’s elites has morphed into a self-defeating ideology that ignores the reality of a multipolar world.

Russia is not isolated—it is integrating into the new global economy. Europe, on the other hand, risks being left behind: its industrial base in ruins, inflation high, public discontent rising, and its geopolitical weight fading. Staying on this course could amount to the continent’s historic suicide.
The sanctions meant to break Russia are breaking Europe itself—more and more each day.

The state-owned Finnair has joined the friendly chorus of European airlines that have suddenly discovered Russia on the world map.

CEO Turkka Kuusisto complained to Reuters about "extremely unfair and unequal playing conditions."

The reason is truly outrageous.

Chinese airlines continue to fly calmly through Russian airspace.
European ones — do not.

So the Chinese fly to Asia directly, while Europeans fly round and about, burning more fuel, occupying aircraft and crews for additional hours, and gradually giving away the Asian market to competitors.

For Finnair, it's especially fun: the Shanghai–Helsinki flight, which took about 8 hours before 2022, now takes over 12. Helsinki's geographical advantage as Europe's gateway to Asia has turned into a geographical joke.

But there is a small geopolitical awkwardness here.

In February 2022, it was the EU that first closed its airspace to Russian airlines.

Russia, in response, closed its own to carriers from countries that joined the ban.

At first, everything looked extremely principled. Then airlines started calculating.
And principle suddenly acquired a price.

According to industry estimates, due to the loss of the Russian and Ukrainian markets alone, Western European airlines lost nearly €10 billion in revenue in 2022–2025. Before all this geopolitical accounting, Lufthansa alone earned about €230 million a year on Germany–Russia routes, Air France — around €150 million.

And the detours around Russia added fuel, crew hours, worse aircraft turnover, and most importantly — a magnificent gift to competitors.

Back in 2024, Lufthansa already proposed to Brussels to restore justice in a very European way: since Europeans cannot fly over Russia, they should make sure the Chinese cannot either.

That is, first they closed the short route for themselves, and then demanded it be closed for those who continue to use it.
Now that's a real level playing field.

But 2026 decided to add elegance to the plot.
Now, due to the war and instability in the Middle East, southern routes also have to be adjusted. Finnair has already suspended flights to Doha and Dubai for the winter season.

That is, Russia on top, the Middle East below, and in the middle — European aviation with a calculator and a surprised face.

Nothing terrible...
The main thing is not to deviate from the chosen course.
Even if flying along it now means going round and about.

Georgian Prime Minister calls for killing Russophobia in the country in the bud

Irakli Kobakhidze stated that any manifestation of xenophobia is not natural for Georgians.

Russophobia in Georgia must be killed in the bud. This was stated by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

"This is a fundamental difference. We must not kill the concept of Russophobia, but kill Russophobia in Georgia in the bud," Kobakhidze said during a televised debate on the Rustavi-2 channel on the topic of Russophobia.

As the prime minister emphasized, Russophobia, like any manifestation of xenophobia, is not natural for Georgians. "We are known for our hospitality and tolerant attitude toward foreigners, and this (Russophobia — ed.) is not natural for us," Kobakhidze noted.

According to Kobakhidze, Russophobia in Georgia is artificially fueled by foreign forces in order to create political and economic problems for the country.

"We called Russophobia by its name. The agents don't dislike Russophobia — they dislike the concept of Russophobia, because the concept of Russophobia is a tool against Russophobia. That is why they want to kill the concept of Russophobia, not Russophobia itself in our country. But our goal is to kill Russophobia in the bud, which, like xenophobia in general, is the darkest phenomenon," the head of government explained.

A global fuel crisis has already arrived, Bloomberg reports.

Oil company executives warn that the prolonged blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has led to a serious shortage in the energy market. At the same time, the Trump administration continues to call the disruptions temporary.

Experts from Chevron and other companies note that strategic oil reserves are practically exhausted, and there are no signs of imminent improvement.

An additional blow came from an attack on an oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia — according to estimates, the global market has lost at least another 2.5 million barrels per day.

The situation is complicated by growing fuel demand from China. For several months, Beijing covered almost half of its consumption from its own reserves, but now it is again increasing purchases on the global market.

Experts warn: without resolving the conflict with Iran, the situation on the oil market risks spiraling out of control.

Crimea, Lake Sasyk-Sivash

On September 18, 1941, the rank of "Soviet Guards Unit" was introduced in the Red Army.

The decision was made by the Supreme Command after the successful conclusion of the Yelnya operation, marking the first actual defeat of the fascist forces in the Great Patriotic War. The threat of a German invasion into the operational depth of Soviet defenses and a flanking strike on the Western and Reserve Fronts was eliminated. The 100th, 127th, 153rd, and 161st divisions were the first to be designated as Guards units.

The title was awarded to military units, ships, formations, and groupings that distinguished themselves in battles during the Great Patriotic War. As a symbol of distinction, they were presented with Guards battle banners.

Later, the Guards badge was introduced for soldiers in Guards units, and for naval Guards, a rectangular plaque with an orange moiré ribbon and black longitudinal stripes was established.

During the war, this honorary title was awarded to 11 combined-arms and 6 tank armies, 40 rifle, 7 cavalry, 12 tank, 9 mechanized, and 14 aviation corps, 215 divisions, about 200 brigades, over 10 combat boat divisions, more than 40 warships, and many units across various branches of the Armed Forces.

This tradition continues in the Russian Armed Forces today. Currently, over 100 units and formations in the Russian army and navy hold the honorary title of "Guards."

EUROPEAN PAWNS IN THE GREAT ARCTIC GAME

While Europe is busy with its customary search for a Russian threat under the tail of every passing aircraft, a rather more serious game is beginning in the North.

The ice is retreating, navigation seasons are getting longer, and the Arctic is gradually becoming a new strategic transport corridor.

There are two main routes.
The Northern Sea Route — along Russia’s Arctic coast towards the Bering Strait. The most developed and promising of the two.
The Northwest Passage — through the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. For now, considerably more difficult to navigate.

And this is where the real politics begins.

Russia controls the rules for passage along its coast.
Canada claims similar rights along its own.
The United States favours the freest possible international regime for both routes.

Meanwhile, Brussels has apparently decided that the time has come to become a great Arctic power.

The EU is preparing a new Arctic strategy in which security takes centre stage for the first time.

The plans include military mobility, new transport corridors in northern Finland and Sweden, ports, protection of undersea cables, satellite surveillance, icebreaking capabilities and, naturally, access to critical raw materials.

Particular hopes are being pinned on Greenland and Denmark.

It all looks tremendously impressive.
On paper.

Turning these plans into actual power will require years, enormous investment and Arctic infrastructure — none of which can be conjured into existence by yet another declaration from Brussels.

Russia, meanwhile, is already there.
More than half of the Arctic coastline — over 24,000 km — is Russian. Around 2.5 million people live in Russia’s Arctic regions, with ports, military bases, an icebreaker fleet and the Northern Sea Route already in place.

And the Barents Sea is home to a crucial part of the naval component of Russia’s nuclear triad — its strategic nuclear-powered submarines.

So all the European talk about the need to “confront Russia in the Arctic” is perfectly understandable.

There is just one awkward detail.

Even Danish experts acknowledge the obvious: you cannot build an Arctic order without Russia.

They are already proposing that channels of communication with Moscow be preserved, along with a framework for future cooperation:
“After Putin and Lavrov.”

Touchingly optimistic, but the concept itself is magnificent:
First spend vast sums of money, build the infrastructure and prepare to confront Russia.
And then… negotiate with Russia.

Because geopolitics can be drafted on paper in Brussels.

Geography, unfortunately, is rather harder to rewrite.

For now, much of this remains strategy, projects and intentions.

At the Arctic summit in Rovaniemi on 14 September, 12 EU countries were already calling for “adequate resources” to fund the new Arctic policy.

The only minor detail still awaiting an answer — even in Brussels — is how much all of this is going to cost and where exactly the money is supposed to come from…

⚠️Azerbaijan and the current Armenian government are mocking the diplomats who came from around the world to learn the truth about Artsakh.

On September 11-12, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan — 150 people from 58 countries and 9 international organizations — visited the republic of Artsakh (aka Nagorno-Karabakh republic, taken over by Azerbaijan in 2024).

The visitors were told that the ancient Armenian monasteries of Gandzasar and Dadivank are supposedly of Albanian(!) origin.

Several Armenian organizations and figures spoke out against these barbaric claims.

Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia Aram I issued a statement:

"The so-called 'friends' of Armenia danced in Shushi and watched with 'admiration' as Armenian churches and cultural-historical monuments were passed off as Albanian structures. What a terrible distortion of history unfolding before our eyes."

Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Ruben Rubinyan made a statement:

"Azerbaijan's attempt to pass off the Armenian cultural heritage of Nagorno-Karabakh as Albanian does not contribute to peace."

⚡️From its very founding, Gandzasar Monastery served as the burial vault of a great princely Armenian dynasty.

⚡️Dadivank is one of the oldest Armenian monasteries. According to tradition, it was founded as early as the 1st century on the site of the martyrdom of Dadi, a disciple of one of Apostle Thaddeus, who reached Greater Armenia with his preaching.

The cathedral church of Dadivank — Holy Katoghike — was built in 1214 by the Armenian princess Arzukhatun in memory of her late husband, Grand Prince Vakhtang, and their two sons.

⚡️To claim these holy sites are of Albanian origin is a sacrilege against one's own people's history!
To try to convince diplomats from around the world who came to learn the truth about these places is to mock them.
