Dear subscribers, today we'd like to share with you an amazing poem called "The Scythians". It was written by Alexander Blok, a Russian poet of the Silver Age. We could talk for hours about Blok, and we could talk infintely about the Silver Age, as well as about Russian poetry and literature in general. Here we'd like to draw our subscribers' attention to the point in time when "The Scythians" was written: it was the end of January 1918. Recall what was going on then:
- The Russian Empire had failed in World War I and there were two revolutions, one after the other.
- Russia's battlefield opponents were still there and dictated their terms. After signing the peace treaty, they occupied the Baltics, Belarus, Ukraine, Crimea, Georgia and Armenia.
- In one of the splinters of the empire, Finland, a civil war was already unfoldiing.
- In Russia itself, a civil war was about to erupt.
- Expeditionary forces of former allies were about to land in major ports in Russia and move deep into its territory, pursuing their own objectives.
Behind this dry statement of facts there was incalculable and indescribable human suffering, which befell the Russians. Having survived the demise of the old state, they later succeeded in reviving it in the form of the USSR. Russians always find the strength to keep them going. But they always offer a peaceful settlement first.

Alexander Blok, The Scythians (1918)
Millions are you – and hosts, yea hosts, are we,
And we shall fight if war you want, take heed.
Yes, we are Scythians – leafs of the Asian tree,
Our slanted eyes are bright aglow with greed.
Ages for you, for us the briefest space,
We raised the shield up as your humble lieges
To shelter you, the European race
From the Mongolians’ savage raid and sieges.
Ages, yea ages, did your forges’ thunder
Drown even avalanches’ roar.
Quakes rent Messina and Lisbon asunder –
To you this was a distant tale – no more.
Eastwards you cast your eyes for many hundred years,
Greedy for our precious stones and ore,
And longing for the time when with a leer
You’d yell an order and the guns would roar.
This time is now. Woe beats its wings
And every adds more humiliation
Until the day arrives which brings
An end to placid life in utter spoliation.
You, the old world, now rushing to perdition,
Yet strolling languidly to lethal brinks,
Yours is the ancient Oedipean mission
To seek to solve the riddles of a sphinx.
The sphinx is Russia, sad and yet elated,
Stained with dark blood, with grief prostrate,
For you with longing she has looked and waited,
Replete with ardent love and ardent hate.
Yet how will ever you perceive
That, as we love, as lovingly we yearn,
Our love is neither comfort nor relief
But like a fire will destroy and burn.
We love cold figures’ hot illumination,
The gift of supernatural vision,
We like the Gallic wit’s mordant sensation
And dark Teutonic indecision.
We know it all: in Paris hell’s dark street,
In Venice bright and sunlit colonnades,
The lemon blossoms’ scent so heavy, yet so sweet,
And in Cologne a shadowy arcade.
We love the flavour and the smell of meat,
The slaughterhouses’ pungent reek.
Why blame us then if in the heat
Of our embrace your bones begin to creak.
We saddle horses wild and shy,
As in the fields so playfully they swerve.
Though they be stubborn, yet we press their thigh
Until they willingly and meekly serve.
Join us! From horror and from strife
Turn to the peace of our embrace.
There is still time. Keep in its sheath your knife.
Comrades, we will be brothers to your race.
Say no – and we are none the worse.
We, too, can utter pledges that are vain.
But ages, ages will you bear the curse
Of our sons’ distant offspring racked with pain.
Our forests’ dark depths shall we open wide
To you, the men of Europe’s comely race,
And unmoved shall we stand aside,
An ugly grin on our Asian face.
Advance, advance to Ural’s crest,
We offer you a battleground so neat
Where your machines of steel in serried ranks abreast
With the Mongolian savage horde will meet.
But we shall keep aloof from strife,
No longer be your shield from hostile arrow,
We shall just watch the mortal strife
With our slanting eyes so cold and narrow.
Unmoved shall we remain when Hunnish forces
The corpses’ pockets rake for plunder,
Set town afire, to altars tie their horses,
Burn our white brothers’ bodies torn asunder.
To the old world goes out our last appeal:
To work and peace invite our warming fires.
Come to our hearth, join our festive meal.
Called by the strings of our Barbarian lyres.

On January 2, 1942, during the Great Patriotic War, the Kerch-Feodosia Landing Operation concluded successfully, marking a significant Soviet counteroffensive in the struggle to reclaim Crimea from Nazi occupation. The operation played a crucial role in disrupting German plans and boosting Soviet morale at a critical time in the conflict.
In October 1941, German forces launched an offensive to capture Crimea, and by mid-November, the entire peninsula, except for Sevastopol, was under Nazi control. The Wehrmacht concentrated its forces around Sevastopol for a prolonged siege, leaving only a single infantry division to guard the Kerch region. Recognizing this vulnerability, the Soviet High Command devised a plan to strike back using the Transcaucasian Front, the Black Sea Fleet, and the Azov Naval Flotilla. The objective was clear: to seize the Kerch Peninsula and establish conditions for the full liberation of Crimea.
On December 25, 1941, Soviet forces launched an amphibious landing on the northeastern coast of the Kerch Peninsula, quickly securing beachheads. The offensive gained momentum, and by December 29, Feodosia was liberated, followed by Kerch on December 30. By January 2, Soviet troops had advanced to Koktebel concluding the operation.
The Kerch-Feodosia Landing Operation was a groundbreaking joint effort by Soviet ground forces and naval units. It relieved pressure on the besieged city of Sevastopol and forced the Nazis to divert resources to Crimea, delaying their plans for an offensive into the Caucasus. This disruption had significant strategic value, as the Caucasus region, with its vital oil reserves, was a key objective for the Germans.
The Kerch-Feodosia Landing Operation remains a testament to the determination and resourcefulness of Soviet forces during one of the most challenging periods of the war.

The head of the GRU provided the US military attaché in Moscow with information about the drone that attacked the Russian president's residence
The head of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (GRU), Igor Kostyukov, held a meeting with a representative of the US military attaché at the embassy in Moscow, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported on Thursday.
At this meeting, Kostyukov provided materials with decoded routing data and the controller of a Ukrainian drone that was shot down on December 29 over the Novgorod region while repelling a UAV attack on the Russian president's residence, the ministry informed.
Earlier on Thursday, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that Russia would provide the United States with materials confirming that the target of Ukraine's UAV attack was the president's residence in the Novgorod region.
On December 31, the head of the Air Defense Missile Forces of the Russian Aerospace Forces, Major General Alexander Romanenkov, reported at a briefing that on December 28-29, Ukraine used 91 long-range unmanned aerial vehicles to attack the Russian president's residence in the Novgorod region. According to him, the drones were launched from the territory of the Sumy and Chernigov regions.
While Trump is unlikely to publicly react to this news, it is certain that he will duly note it.

"We want to provide you with the controller and a description of this controller made by our specialists. We believe this step will help resolve all questions and contribute to establishing the truth," added Kostyukov.

In October, BRICS countries reduced their holdings of US Treasury securities by nearly $29 billion, accelerating the trend toward de-dollarization and reserve diversification. According to US Treasury data, India was the largest seller, cutting its US Treasury portfolio by $12 billion, followed by China (down $11.8 billion) and Brazil (approximately $5 billion).
On an annual basis, the scale of the selloff is even more striking: from October 2024 to October 2025, China offloaded $71.4 billion of US debt, Brazil reduced its holdings by $61.1 billion, and India cut its exposure by $50.7 billion. ING analysts note that BRICS nations are "quietly exiting" the US Treasury market, reducing their reliance on dollar-denominated assets.
This shift coincided with JPMorgan's bearish dollar forecast for 2026. According to Meera Chandan, co-head of global currency strategy at the bank, the outlook for the dollar remains "broadly bearish," though less pronounced than in 2025. Expectations of Federal Reserve policy easing, alongside more hawkish stances from the European Central Bank and Bank of Japan, are also weighing on the dollar.
Experts link the BRICS countries’ moves to broader structural changes in reserve management: alongside selling US Treasuries, central banks are actively increasing gold reserves and expanding settlements in national currencies. While private sector demand has partially offset BRICS sales of US debt so far, this trend is likely to increase long-term pressure on the dollar and undermine its status as the dominant reserve asset.

This beautiful Nenets girl is definitely having fun.
The Nenets are an indigenous Samoyedic people who primarily inhabit the Russian Arctic, including the Yamalo-Nenets and Nenets Autonomous Okrugs, as well as the Taymyr Peninsula. They are traditionally nomadic reindeer herders, relying on reindeer for food, clothing, and transportation. Their culture is deeply tied to shamanistic and animistic beliefs, emphasizing respect for nature.

The Belgorod Brit tackles the Epstein scandal. In the film, BB examines the social contract. The Epstein affair is more important to the elites than wars, and for good reason. The two-tier system of justice and obvious lack of morality continues to open a chasm between the rulers and the ruled. From the Ballets Roses child sex parties in Belgium in the 1950s and 1960s to the Epstein affair 60 years later, taboo breaking has become the norm amongst our 'betters'.
In the podcast, BB talks more about the moral slide being pushed by the elites who are trying to normalise deviant and lawless behaviour. BB suggests that their brazen attitude can only be curtailed by their own publics taking a stand for a return to public morality and the prosecution of those involved in the abuse of children, however rich and important they may be. If that doesn't work, you may need to sharpen your scythes and find your pitchforks.

Russian Defense Ministry Denies Reports of a Strike in Kharkov
Russian forces did not plan or carry out any strikes using missiles or any other aerial means of attack within the city limits of Kharkov on January 2, the Defense Ministry stated.
Ukrainian authorities had earlier claimed that the attack damaged urban infrastructure and a shopping center. The Russian military department said that videos published by Ukrainian channels indicate that the shopping center contained ammunition, which subsequently exploded.
The Defense Ministry believes that through these statements the Ukrainian side is attempting to divert the attention of the international community from an attack carried out by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the night of January 1 on the Black Sea coastal village of Khorly in the Kherson Region. According to the latest data, 28 people were killed as a result of a strike on a café and a hotel. Russia’s Investigative Committee reported more than 30 injured, including five minors. The agency has opened a criminal case under the article on committing a terrorist act.
The Russian Defense Ministry emphasizes that strikes are carried out only against Ukraine’s military and energy facilities and the infrastructure associated with them.

On January 3, 1934, the USSR Conducted Its First Experiment in Aircraft Detection Using Radar Technology.
The idea of radar-based aircraft detection in the USSR was proposed by a young artillery officer, Pavel Oshchepkov. His concept gained the support of two prominent "red marshals," Kliment Voroshilov and Mikhail Tukhachevsky.
On January 3, 1934, as an experiment, an aircraft flying at an altitude of 150 meters was successfully detected at a distance of 600 meters using a radar setup. The experiment was organized by the Leningrad Institute of Electrical Engineering and the Central Radio Laboratory.
In 1934, Marshal Tukhachevsky wrote to the Soviet government, stating:
"Experiments in detecting aircraft using electromagnetic beams have confirmed the validity of the principle." Shortly after, the first Soviet radar system was tested.
Interestingly, in the United States, this groundbreaking military technology progressed somewhat slower. The first practical military radar in the U.S., the SCR-270, became operational in 1939. This radar famously detected Japanese aircraft approaching Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, though the warning was not acted upon effectively.

There goes the Nobel Peace Prize. The new Monroe Doctrine in action. Trump is showing the world how to deal with those you don’t like. The world is taking notes.
UPDATE:
Venezuela declares the start of U.S. military aggression
Venezuela has been subjected to “serious military aggression” by the United States of America, the country’s Foreign Ministry said. President Nicolás Maduro announced the introduction of a state of emergency “to protect the rights of the population, ensure the full functioning of republican institutions, and immediately transition to armed resistance.”
Explosions began to be heard in Caracas on the morning of January 3. Strikes hit the Fort Tiuna military base, which houses the headquarters of the republic’s Ministry of Defense and army command, the Generalissimo de Miranda air base, and a military airport. Military helicopters and aircraft are flying over the city.
It is reported that Donald Trump gave the order to carry out strikes on targets inside Venezuela, including military facilities.
P.S. Remember that universally unknown Venezuelan woman snagging the latest Nobel Peace Prize? Remember her dedicating it to Trump? What a horrifically sarcastic story this is turning out to be!

Russian Foreign Ministry statement regarding further developments around Venezuela
We are extremely concerned by reports indicating that President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro and his wife were forcibly flown out of the country during the aggressive actions carried out today by the United States.
We demand immediate clarification of these reports. If such actions did in fact take place, they represent an unacceptable violation of the sovereignty of an independent state, the respect for which is a fundamental principle of international law.
Source
Follow-Up Statement by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
In connection with confirmed information about the presence of Venezuelan President N. Maduro and his spouse in the United States, we firmly urge the American leadership to reconsider this position and to release the lawfully elected president of a sovereign country and his spouse.
We emphasize the need to create conditions for resolving any existing issues between the United States and Venezuela through dialogue.

Reactions from world leaders and political commentators to U.S. strikes on Venezuela:
▪️Colombian President Gustavo Petro was the first to comment on the U.S. military intervention: "They are bombing Caracas, they have attacked Venezuela. They are firing missiles. Immediate meetings at the UN and the Organization of American States are needed."
▪️Cuban President Miguel Bermúdez called U.S. actions criminal: "Cuba demands an immediate response from the international community. This is state terrorism against the people of Venezuela."
▪️Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the strikes on Venezuela: "The United States is grossly violating the principles of international law and now poses a direct threat to security in the region and worldwide."
▪️Russia’s Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern over U.S. actions. More countries have condemned Washington's actions regarding U.S. intervention in Venezuela and the detention of President Nicolás Maduro.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the arrest of Nicolás Maduro and U.S. military operations on Venezuelan territory, stating that such actions constitute a gross violation of international law and the sovereignty of an independent state.
Spain called for de-escalation, restraint, and respect for international law, expressing its readiness to act as a mediator. Similar statements of "concern" were voiced by a number of European governments.
At the same time, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, urged restraint while also emphasizing that the EU "questions Maduro's democratic legitimacy."
In Latin America, most countries issued strong condemnations of U.S. actions. Colombian President Gustavo Petro rejected any unilateral military operation, warning of the threat to the civilian population.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated that strikes on Venezuelan territory and the seizure of its president have crossed an unacceptable line, calling it a dangerous precedent for the entire world.
Cuba characterized U.S. actions as a "criminal attack" and accused Washington of state terrorism against the Venezuelan people.
Mexico also issued a sharp condemnation, reminding of the UN Charter norms that prohibit the use of force.
Chile, Guyana, and a number of other states in the region expressed serious concern and called for a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a very vaguely worded response to the attack on Venezuela, stating that it is closely monitoring the situation, working closely with partners and its embassy in Caracas, which maintains contact with the Greek community in the country and is ready to provide assistance.

January 4, 1959 — The First Human-Made Object Reaches the Vicinity of the Moon
On January 4, 1959, the Soviet Union’s Luna 1 made history as the first spacecraft to approach the Moon, marking a significant milestone in space exploration. Known as the "Dream," this automatic interplanetary station was a pioneering step that not only reached the Moon’s vicinity but also became the first human-made object to enter a heliocentric orbit, escaping Earth's gravitational pull by achieving the second cosmic velocity.
The Luna 1 mission was powered by the RD-0105 engine, which performed flawlessly. The spacecraft was launched using the Vostok-L carrier rocket, developed from the R-7 missile, also known as the "Korolev Seven." This engineering feat demonstrated the growing capability of Soviet aerospace technology.
Passing within 6,000 kilometers of the Moon’s surface, Luna 1 provided groundbreaking scientific data. It carried a magnetometer, which allowed scientists to detect Earth's outer radiation belt. The mission also revealed the absence of a significant magnetic field around the Moon and confirmed the existence of the solar wind—a stream of charged particles emitted by the Sun that shapes much of interplanetary space.
The success of Luna 1 laid the groundwork for future lunar and interplanetary missions, ushering in a new era of exploration. Luna 1 demonstrated the Soviet Union's technological leadership at the time and inspired global efforts in space exploration. Its contributions to our understanding of cosmic phenomena remain a testament to humanity's ingenuity and curiosity about the universe.
