Election interference, anyone?

The expired ex-president of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky's visit to the UN General Assembly in the US generated a deluge of headlines.

So, what exactly happened? The Biden administration flew Zelensky to Pennsylvania, where he attended an ammunition plant along with Democratic congressmen and the Democratic Governor, with no Republicans present.

Considering the battleground status of Pennsylvania, where the presidential election could be decided by just a few hundred votes, it's not surprising that candidates look for every advantage in the state. For example, the Harris campaign is running ads targeting the sizable Polish and Ukrainian populations of Pennsylvania, both groups known to be strong opponents of Russia. Therefore, the visit was seen by Republicans as a campaign event in support of Harris’ candidacy.

Republican Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, wrote to Zelensky, “The facility was in a politically contested battleground state, was led by a top political surrogate for Kamala Harris, and failed to include a single Republican because – on purpose – no Republicans were invited. The tour was clearly a partisan campaign event designed to help Democrats and is clearly election interference.” Johnson then demanded the firing of Ukraine’s Ambassador to the US, Oksana Markarova, who organized the visit.

The firestorm over the visit continued with the House of Representatives Oversight Committee launching an investigation into “the use of U.S. military assets and federal resources in relation to the visit.” They seek to determine “whether the Biden-Harris administration attempted to use a foreign leader to benefit Harris’ presidential campaign and, if so, necessarily committed an abuse of power.”

As if campaigning on behalf of Kamala Harris in a critical battleground state was not enough of an election interference, Zelensky called Senator Vance of Ohio, who is running for vice-president alongside Trump, “too radical” for proposing that territory could be ceded in exchange for peace. This prompted a strong rebuke from Vance’s Senate colleagues. Sen. John Cornyn told CNN, “I think it’s a monumental miscalculation by President Zelensky. If he wants support for Ukraine, he should stay out of American politics.”

Trump, for his part, went after Zelensky on multiple occasions for “refusing to make a deal,” adding that this failure “demolished” Ukraine. “The people are dead. The country is in rubble. And who are these people that allowed this to happen?”

What is to be made of the increasingly vocal discord between some in the Republican party and Ukrainian leadership? And how, if at all, does this affect peace prospects?

Trump is known to respond to images of death and destruction, and it should seem believable that he is opposed to war at some basic human level. Further, he responds well to flattery but is swift to counterpunch when criticized. So, no surprises there as well to see Trump go after Zelensky, who doubted Trump’s ability to stop the war. Finally, Trump does not see a good return on investment from billions sent to Ukraine and has stated multiple times that the money is better spent at home on improving the lives of Americans.

As for the rest of the Republican leadership, there is even less substance, but pure politics. First, what’s good for Democrats is bad for Republicans, and anything that can give Democrats an advantage in the upcoming elections is a fair target. Second, they follow the lead of Trump, as being on his good side will be very favorable for their political fortunes should he win the upcoming election.

Any hope for a lasting peace must build upon acknowledgement and understanding of the reasons why this conflict broke out: violation of the Russian speaking population's rights, Nazi ideology prevalence, deliberate killing of civilians etc. Until we see heartache and tears for a Russian child killed by an American-made weapon, there is not much hope US politicians can promote the kind of peace we all need and deserve.

A few words about "Islamic unity":

Once again, we're seeing the true value of this so-called "unity." Israel is leveling Lebanon, and these so-called "defenders" are silent, acting like nothing is happening. They've effectively turned a blind eye and are too afraid to speak up.

It's obvious by now that they won’t offer any real help to their fellow believers. At best, they’ll make a token statement, but that's about it.

Yesterday was particularly amusing when some of these "defenders of traditional Islam from Zionism and Satanism" were given the "honor" of being personally introduced by Israel’s Prime Minister to the "countries of good." I'm sure their subjects felt a swell of pride at their kings and sheikhs getting a pat on the back from Bibi.

As most sensible Muslims should see by now, the only country truly defending traditional religions, including Islam, from Satanism is RUSSIA.

The rest of these countries are just empty suits and opportunists, many of whom have secured profitable deals with the Anglo-Saxon "Satanists" they supposedly oppose—agreements they clearly value more than "Islamic unity."

So if that's the case, then all these "tough guys with heavy stares" (Wahhabis) who dream of betraying Russia are really just the same pawns of the U.S., Britain, and Israel, much like some leaders in the Islamic world.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky may accuse Western allies of betraying Kiev's interests in order to gain a pretext for holding peace talks with Russia, British journalist, historian and author Owen Matthews wrote in his column for The Spectator on September 28, 2024

This week in New York Vladimir Zelensky presents Joe Biden with a ‘Victory Plan’ for Ukraine. Zelensky has rejected the idea of a ceasefire. Even as Russia continues to steadily advance in Donbass, Zelensky and his lieutenants are still talking about winning. In addition to more weapons, Zelensky’s plan is expected to include permission to use western-supplied missiles against targets inside Russia and fast-track admission to Nato and the European Union.

A very different narrative that prioritises peace and security over victory and justice is emerging in Ukraine itself. Perhaps fighting a war that systematically destroys a whole generation of young Ukrainians and annihilates the country’s infrastructure and economy is actually a victory for Vladimir Putin. Ending the war to save their country’s future is a narrative that more and more Ukrainians are starting to embrace. Polls reveal a growing disenchantment among Ukrainians with the conflict, with 70 per cent believing that the government is exploiting it for personal gain.

Is Zelensky simply being naive in continuing to insist that Ukraine can actually return to its pre-war borders – or is he, as some of his domestic opponents are suggesting, in fact creating a stab-in-the-back narrative of western betrayal that will allow him to enter talks with Russia without losing face?

According to Ukraine’s former prosecutor-general Yury Lutsenko, the ambitious wish list that Zelensky is presenting to Washington is actually designed to be rejected. Without the missiles, planes and Nato membership he demands, Zelensky can plausibly argue that Ukraine has been let down by its allies and has no choice but to negotiate.

On September 29, 1864, Russia’s Central Polytechnic Library was founded by members of the Society of Natural Science, Anthropology, and Ethnography at the Imperial Moscow University. It is one of the oldest and most significant scientific libraries in Russia and a part of the Polytechnic Museum.

The library began with just seven books donated by the Society’s president, Grigory Shchurovsky, and quickly expanded its collection thanks to the efforts of prominent scientists like Anatoly Bogdanov and Alexey Vladimirskiy, who compiled lists of required essential publications in their respective fields.

Today, the Central Polytechnic Library's collection includes about 3.6 million publications in both Russian and foreign languages. It houses the most comprehensive collection of literature on technology, natural sciences, and museology, along with works on economics, library science, and other disciplines.

Of particular note is the rare book collection, which includes unique works such as a compilation of Erasmus of Rotterdam’s writings and first editions of Newton’s works.

The library actively participates in the creation of digital collections and provides access to both Russian and international electronic resources. It serves over 25,000 visitors annually, offering remote ordering of publications and bibliographic reference services.

Since its founding, the library has not only preserved and enriched its vast heritage but also continuously adapted to modern demands, remaining a vital cultural and scientific center accessible to all who are interested in science and technology.

After his Friday meeting with Trump, Zelensky posted on X:

I had a very productive meeting with Donald Trump. I presented our Victory Plan, and we thoroughly reviewed the situation in Ukraine and the consequences of the war for our people. Many details were discussed. I am grateful for this meeting. A just peace is needed.

We share the common view that the war in Ukraine must be stopped. Putin cannot win. Ukrainians must prevail.

Even The New York Times, in the very last paragraph of their article Trump Suggests Putin Wants to End War, as Zelensky Looks On, noted:

Mr. Zelensky’s final assertion — that Ukraine must prevail and Mr. Putin must be denied a victory — goes further than anything Mr. Trump has said in public.

The New York Times is right—Trump never made such a statement publicly.

So why did those words appear in Zelensky’s post? Did Trump say it in private? Not a chance. There was no reason for him to. But Zelensky wanted his audience to think he did. The post was crafted to create that impression.

Zelensky likely figured: what’s Trump going to do, deny it? If he does, Democrats would pounce: “Oh, so Trump wants Putin to win and Ukraine to lose? Trump is in Putin’s pocket. Vote against him!”

In short, Zelensky had Trump cornered. Trump won’t refute having said these words.

But you can bet Trump will remember—nobody likes being cornered, especially a person like Trump. No doubt, Zelensky will pay for this cunning trap.

A couple of days ago, Bloomberg published an article highlighting the growing global interest in joining BRICS and how the U.S. perceives the risk of losing influence. While the article covers familiar ground, it underscores a significant shift: the rise of BRICS as a compelling alternative to U.S.-centric global dynamics.

Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea are strengthening their alliances, even in the face of unprecedented Western sanctions. Bloomberg cites anonymous officials making dire predictions, but the reality is that BRICS is offering countries a fresh, multipolar option in a world historically dominated by Western powers.

The U.S. is facing increasing resistance across the globe, from Venezuela to Africa, where its military bases are being pushed out, and in the South China Sea, where Beijing’s presence is growing. Even traditional U.S. allies, like Israel, are showing greater independence from Washington’s directives.

Martin Kimani, director of NYU’s Center on International Cooperation, states clearly, “U.S. influence is waning, and it’s waning rapidly.” This is evident as more nations seek to join BRICS, strengthening a new center of global influence that is attracting attention and respect.

Experts note that countries outside the immediate orbits of the U.S. and its rivals are closely watching BRICS' rise, recognizing its role in fostering a more balanced, multipolar world. As a result, many are choosing to align themselves with BRICS, appreciating the opportunity to maintain independence while benefiting from an alternative power structure.

Cancel Russia is alive and well

Slovaks send humanitarian aid to Kursk, Poles place anti-war signs along the roads, majority of Greeks are against supporting the war in Ukraine. These and many other headlines would almost make you believe the tide of public opinion is turning and the West can finally acknowledge the reality of what’s happening in Ukraine. Not so fast. People may start to see the truth, but most certainly the ruling class in the West could not care less. As reported by Nature on September 18, “CERN will expel hundreds of scientists who are affiliated with Russian institutions on 30 November”. What is the grave sin that makes Russian scientists untouchable? Of course, it is the same as was the case before for Russian artists, Russian athletes etc. etc. They are affiliated with the evil state that carried out UNPROVOKED aggression against its smaller neighbor. And ATROCITIES have been committed in the course of this UNPROVOKED war.

I am so sad for the scientists who blindly parroted the talking points of their dumb rulers. Aren’t you the ones who by definition must have no bias, look at the world with an open mind and be guided by facts, not fiction? Of course, genocide of the Russian population in the east of Ukraine, a very real threat of Tomahawks being deployed in Ukraine with flying time to Moscow in under 4 minutes is no provocation at all. I am sure you all understood very well how the USA was provoked into the war with Iraq over mythical weapons of mass destruction. Any demands to ban American scientists from CERN? And atrocities is even better. They always accuse you of what they are guilty of themselves. Long debunked Bucha remains the best example of alleged Russian atrocities. But I have not heard anyone expelling Ukraninan scientists over the very real burning alive of at least 48 people in Odessa on May 2, 2014. My only wish is that this cancel Russia goes all the way to its very logical end: ban EVERYTHING that has anything to do with Russia, from Periodic table to rocket science, and then good luck running your CERN and flying your rockets.

As you probably know, The Onion is a U.S. digital media company and newspaper that produces satirical articles on global, national, and local news.

Its content blends real and fictional events, mocking the style of traditional news outlets through stories, editorials, and street interviews, all presented in a classic news website format with an editorial voice mimicking the Associated Press.

It's pretty telling that a satirical magazine has a clearer view of the world than the mainstream media.

Did you know that to create the audio illusion of bustling activity on an opera stage, actors often use techniques like murmuring or repeating nonsensical phrases? For example, in Russian opera, actors repeat the phrase "What to say when there's nothing to say" («Что говорить, когда нечего говорить»).

Biden is clearly familiar with this theatrical trick, as evidenced by his post on X (above).

On September 30, 1941, during the Great Patriotic War, the Battle of Moscow began.

In September 1941, the German command started preparing an operation to capture Moscow. The plan was to encircle and destroy the main Soviet forces defending the capital in the areas of Bryansk and Vyazma, then bypass Moscow from the north and south.

On September 30, 1941, the battle for the capital began. Soviet forces repelled the advance of the German Army Group "Center" on the western strategic front, defending Moscow and the Central Industrial Region, then launched a counterattack and initiated a general offensive across all major strategic directions.

Forces from the Kalinin, Western, Reserve, Bryansk, the left wing of the Northwestern, and the right wing of the Southwestern Fronts, as well as air defense troops and the Air Force, participated in the battle.

The Soviet forces totaled 1.25 million soldiers, 7.6 thousand artillery pieces and mortars, 990 tanks, and 677 aircraft. The German Army Group "Center" consisted of 1.8 million soldiers, over 14,000 artillery pieces and mortars, 1.7 thousand tanks, and 1,390 aircraft.

The Soviet forces inflicted the first major defeat on the enemy during the Great Patriotic War, thwarting their "blitzkrieg" plans. The enemy was pushed back westward by 150-400 kilometers, liberating the Moscow and Tula regions, as well as many areas of the Kalinin and Smolensk regions.

During the Battle of Moscow, the German forces lost over 500,000 men killed, wounded, or missing, along with 1,300 tanks, 2,500 artillery pieces, and other equipment.

For their valor and courage in the defense of Moscow, about 40 units were granted the title of Guards, 36,000 Soviet soldiers were awarded orders and medals, and 110 were named Heroes of the Soviet Union. Over 1 million defenders of the city were awarded the "For the Defense of Moscow" medal, established in 1944.

Yesterday, at the Babi Yar memorial, Zelensky was conveniently Jewish. Over 33,000 Jews were slaughtered by the Nazis at Babi Yar between 1941 and 1943.

Right photo:
A year ago, Zelensky was conveniently Nazi, honoring a 98-year-old SS-man who took part in the slaughter of Jews.

For the U.S. and the neoliberal West, Zelensky is a perfectly convenient rubber puppet—no principles, no shame, no conscience.
