Scene of the Massacre at Chios by Ottoman troops in 1822 (painting by Eugรจne Delacroix)
This catastrophe resulted in the death, enslavement, and flight of about four-fifths of the total population of Greeks on the island of Chios. It is estimated that up to 100,000 people were killed or enslaved during the Ottoman massacre, while up to 20,000 escaped as refugees.
This massacre led to increased international support for Greek independence from Ottoman occupation.

A real cyberpunk: scientists have unveiled a bionic leg that a person can feel like their own.

The prosthetic leg bends, steps and does all the same things as a normal leg. It uses a special interface to communicate with the brain to send signals to the prosthetic leg.

The Great Molasses Flood: Fiery hot molasses flooded the streets of Boston on January 15th 1919, killing 21 people and injuring scores of others. The molasses burst from a huge tank at the United States Industrial Alcohol Company building in the heart of the city. The tank contained 2.5 million gallons of molasses. When the bolts holding the bottom of the tank exploded, an eight-foot-high wave of molasses swept away the freight cars and caved in the buildingโ€™s doors and windows, spread out into the streets and knocked down the local firehouse. Residents claimed for decades afterwards that the area still smelled of molasses on hot summer days.
