Two commercial vessels carrying 22 Indian nationals have been hijacked by pirates in separate incidents off Yemen and Somalia.
An Eritrea-flagged tanker, M T Sibu 1, carrying 20 crew members, including 16 Indians, was seized in the Gulf of Aden on 20 August, around 30 nautical miles off Yemen.
A second Cameroon-flagged cargo vessel carrying 10 crew members, including six Indians, was hijacked off Somalia’s Puntland coast on 17 August.
According to the latest information, all Indian crew members are safe.
