A few years ago, if you bought a toy, almost every piece used to be “Made in China.” Today, India has reduced its toy imports from China from $235 million in 2020 to $41 million in 2023. At the same time, India has increased its toy exports from $98 million in 2014 to $335 million in 2022.

Here's what India did for boosting Indian Toy Industry & wiping out China's toys:

•Customs duty on toys increased from 20% → 60% in 2020, and later 70% in 2023.

•Restrictions/testing on imported toys
The BIS enforced strict safety quality standards starting in January 2021.

•Significant support through the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana.
which has now been extended to 20 years. This has provided access to collateral-free loans for small businesses

•18 toy clusters across the country have been supported by the Ministry of MSME.

🇮🇳 Mumbai startup Techno Defence has cracked missile cooling tech that only the US, France, and Israel had before.

Their JT Cooler chills infrared missile seekers down to -196°C, killing the internal noise that can make a missile lose track of its target.

Founded by IIT-Bombay alumni Dr Pravin Salinkar and Sudarshan Saraf, with DRDO's Technology Development Fund backing the R&D since 2020.

Trials with DRDO wrapped successfully by 2023-24, and foreign buyers are already circling despite MTCR export restrictions.

Built with a mostly women-led engineering team, using local cottage industry techniques instead of copying foreign designs.

⚡️🇮🇳 India's Defence Ministry issued a tender worth around ₹1 trillion ($11 billion) for 60 multirole transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force, aimed at replacing its ageing cargo fleet. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Tata, and Mahindra are among the Indian companies competing, with officials confirming that Indian firms will lead the programme.

Mahindra Defence has partnered with Brazil's Embraer to offer the C-390, while Tata has teamed with Lockheed Martin to offer the C-130, a plane already serving the Air Force in special operations roles.

About 20 percent of the aircraft will arrive ready to fly, while the remaining planes will be built in India with over 60 percent indigenous content, through joint ventures between Indian companies and the original manufacturer.
