More Planets?
With the release of supposed UFOs and alien-related files from the US government, this has jump-started a new fervor for the concepts of life in space, and alternative theories about the worlds that surround us. Ufology, Ancient Aliens, Alternative Astronomy, can lead to very interesting theories, such as our race, or other races originating from other solar bodies, such as Venus, Mars, Alpha Centauri, Pleiadians, or Nords or Nordic Aliens from the Taygeta system, the Andromeda Galaxy, or even the supergiant star Polaris, just to name a few. That said, I want to focus on theories about our solar system, specifically its planets, and theories of possible other planets throughout our history.
Going from our Sun, or its Latin name Sol, to Neptune, there have been plenty of hypothetical Solar System objects. Flying around ur sun, we have the popular Vulcan, a hypothetical planet once believed to orbit between Mercury and our Sun. French astronomer Urbain Le Verrier proposed its existence to explain the observed irregularities in Mercuryβs orbit, specifically the excess precession of its perihelion that could not be fully accounted for by Newtonian gravity at the time. It can be found as a planet on old lithographic maps of our solar system. Another interesting theoretical planet is a Counter-Earth proposed in Ancient Greece, originating with the Pythagoreans in the 5th century BC, who believed in a hidden planet orbiting the Sun directly opposite Earth. This Counter-Earth was thought to exist so that the total number of celestial bodies would equal the sacred number ten, and it was always concealed from us by our Sunβs glare and our orbital position. Some believers in its existence claim it's another possible origin story for our people. A planet V, or Fifth Rocky planet, is another theorized planet, such as Phaeton, between Mars and Jupiter within the Asteroid Belt, or Theia, a Mars-sized planet that collided with our planet, creating the moon. Another Fifth Planet prosped is a Fifth Giant Planet near Saturn and Uranus.
Many other objects and planets have been theorized, but none as popular as Planet X, a 10th planet beyond Pluto, on the dark edge of our solar system. Dating back to the early 20th century, when Business Mathematician and Astronomer Percival Lowell proposed it to explain unexplained gravitational perturbations in the orbits of Uranus and Neptune. This search famously led to the discovery of Pluto in 1930, though Pluto proved too small to be the culprit. In recent years, the idea was revived by Caltech astronomers Mike Brown and Konstantin Batygin, who in 2016 presented evidence that a massive, unseen planet, roughly 5 to 10 times Earthβs mass, could be shepherding a peculiar cluster of extreme trans-Neptunian objects with aligned, eccentric orbits.
In the future, I could write more about these hypothetical planets and theories, specifically, I know I will touch more on Ancient Alien-related theories. There are also a ton of other theorized Planets, Moons, Asteroids, along with entire solar systems and stars. If you all find this interesting I will gladly make more.
