Sony Network Communications and Startale Labs, a spin-off company from Astar Network, form join venture to build a blockchain in areas of global web3 infrastructure. The new company will aim to provide value-added services in various business arenas across Sony Group's diverse business segments such as game and network services, music, pictures, entertainment technology and services. Earlier in June 2023, Sony Network Communications made a $3.5M investment in Startale Labs.

MetaMask to be usable outside the EVM ecosystem with Snaps launch

MetaMask has announced the launch of a new feature called Snaps — aimed at expanding its use on blockchain networks that are not natively compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Until now, MetaMask has primarily been used with Ethereum and Ethereum-compatible blockchains like BNB Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum and Optimism. Snaps will enable MetaMask's use on non-EVM blockchains that include Cosmos, Solana and Starknet, among others.

Snaps are software modules that can be integrated into the MetaMask wallet for different use cases, such as making the wallet compatible across multiple blockchain ecosystems with specialized code. MetaMask plans to initially release over 25 whitelisted Snaps, and will later allow third-party developers to independently ship and maintain them.
