Dear Candidate,

The qualifier exam, originally scheduled for April 25, 2021, could not be conducted because of the current situation in the country caused by
the pandemic. At this point, it is unclear when a nationwide exam can be organized safely. Keeping the safety of everyone and the interests of
candidates in mind, we offer you two options.

1. OPTION 1 [Defer to September term]: You can wait and appear for the qualifier exam, assuming that the situation improves and we can
organize the exam in the June/July/August timeframe. Upon successfully clearing the qualifier, you will register for courses in the term that
begins in Sep 2021. We will provide advance notice of 2 weeks or so when announcing the exam.

2. OPTION 2 [Tentatively continue in May term]: You can tentatively continue to study courses of your interest from Week 5 onwards in the
May-July 2021 term. Assuming that the situation improves and exams are possible in June/July/August timeframe, you will attempt the qualifier
and your other course exams when conducted. If you successfully clear the qualifier exam, you will gain admission to the program from May
term, and you will formally register for courses.


      a) No additional fee will be charged for tentatively continuing
in the May term.
      b) Tentative continuation in the May term is not to be construed as
admission to the programme.
      c) If you do not clear the qualifier exam or if the exam cannot
be conducted, you will not get any credit or consideration for your
work in courses in the May-July term.

We will send out a more detailed form in the next few days. Please
fill the form and select an option that is suitable for you.

Dear Learner,


Hope you have enjoyed your 4 weeks of study of the qualifier content in March 2021. Unfortunately, the qualifier exam could not be conducted
on April 25, 2021. We had sent a brief email earlier and conducted a live session to present possible options available to you.

This email describes the options in more detail and asks you to select one of the two options.

You now have 2 options:
1. OPTION 1: Defer course registration to Sep 2021 or later
Attempt the qualifier whenever we schedule it as the situation permits - June/July/Aug 2021.
Defer course registration to Sep 2021 term or later, provided you pass the qualifier.

2. OPTION 2: Continue studying with 1/2/3/4 courses in May 2021 term - registering and crediting will depend on your passing the qualifier exam
You can continue studying courses in the May 2021 term. 

Week 5 contents will be made available on 28 May 2021 and subsequent weeks' content will continue every week thereafter. 

Choose the courses you wish to continue studying and complete in anticipation of the possibility that you pass the qualifier when it gets conducted. These can be 1/2/3/4 courses of Sem 1.

Watch videos and submit assignments every week, taking the help of forums and the live sessions in case of doubts.

You can attempt the qualifier whenever IITM can organize it, based on the covid situation.


Once the results are released and if you have passed the qualifier:
          You can register for courses you wish to complete this term.        
           You will be paying the course fees only at this point in time. Until this, no payment needs to be made to study from the courses.
            The quizzes for the courses you follow in this term and the policy for final grades will be announced based on how and when the qualifier exam is conducted.
            Submitting weekly graded assignments is important as eligibility to write the final exams depends on this.

Hey all, The IITM team was doing pilots within themselves for the online proctored quiz 1 and has now expanded it to the GLs. So I've given the mock test today morning. I would like to share with you all the operating procedure. So it went like:

1. A meet link will be shared by the proctor which we need to join by mobile at first.
2. After joining, they will do the checking procedure, we've show our IITMOD I'd card and we'll have to show around the room.
3. Then we need to keep the mobile at an specific angle from where the laptop screen and the desk on which we're sitting are clearly visible.
Note: The desk has to be such that we're facing the wall.
4. Then we need to join the same meet link through our laptop/desktop and we need to turn on our desktop's screen recording.
5. They will share a form in the meet chat, which will consist of questions. We then need to disconnect the meet through laptop/desktop and turn the internet off. Then, we need to solve that question in white plane sheets.
6. After solving all the questions on the sheet, we need to present our screen and we need to put the answers in the shared Google form.
7. They'll share another form after this, where we need to upload our rough sheets (pdf) and desktop screen recording.

Apps required on phone:
1. Google meet.
2. Adobe Scan/CamScanner or similar.

Apps required on laptop for screen recording:
1. Vlc media player ( windows)
2. Quick time player (mac)

What things we need to keep handy :

Hope you are safe and doing well. This email is to update you on our plans for quizzes in the May term.

1. Quiz 1 and Quiz 2 were scheduled as in-person exams at centres for May 30, 2021 and June 20, 2021, respectively. Under the current
circumstances, we will not be able to conduct the quizzes at centres as planned.

2. To assess and ensure the learning of students safely, we will be conducting a remote-proctored quiz that students can take from their
own homes. Here are the main requirements for the remote-proctored quiz.
 
a) [Requirement 1] You need to have a laptop/desktop AND smartphone
(both with a stable Internet connection) AND a convenient space in your home (or some other place you can reach safely) for the exam.
Please make arrangements to the best of your ability to satisfy this requirement.
If you are able to satisfy this requirement, proceed to Requirement 2.
If it is not possible to do so, fill this form https://forms.gle/Hk2W3WKPWaJLY7Jf8 and provide more details, if not already done so.
If you are temporarily affected by the cyclone/floods, pls do not fill the above form. This is only for those who don't have the necessary requirements under normal conditions.
 
b) [Requirement 2] If you can satisfy Requirement 1, you need to participate in a system compatibility check on Thursday, May 27, to
check and sort out exam arrangements. For Instructions please check here.

For those temporarily affected by the cyclone, we will open additional slots on Friday/Saturday.
 
c) [Requirement 3] Math I and Stats I students will be invited to a mock exam on Sunday, May 30.
If you are in Math I and Stats I, you will have to participate in the mock exam.

3) ONLY If you meet all applicable requirements above (Requirement 3 is only for those registered to Maths 1 and Statistics 1), you can appear for the remote-proctored quiz on June 5 or 6.
A detailed schedule regarding actual subjects and timings will be announced on June 1.

Dear student,

We have already extended the assignment 2 submission deadline to last Sunday and are now extending the Assignment 3 submission deadline to coming Sunday- May 30, 2021. This was possible only because quiz 1 is being postponed. If the quiz were to be held on May 30, 2021, we would not have been able to do so.

We would like to state that *THERE WILL BE NO FURTHER EXTENSIONS ON ANY OF THE ASSIGNMENTS HENCEFORTH* this term as the program timetable is quite tight. There are 10 days given for assignment submission under normal circumstances and we also count the best 6 out of first 9 assignments towards eligibility to write the final exam requiring average score in this to be >= 40/100.

This should give enough leeway for students to miss an assignment or two owing to maybe natural causes, college/work tasks, personal contingencies, etc.

Even if you miss submitting, hope you can always come back and practice those for the purpose of learning and preparing for the exams.
