Dear Students,

This is a gentle reminder for the week 3 graded assignment submission deadline on Monday, 2 Nov 2020. This is your last chance to improve your average score to become eligible for the qualifier exam.

Please follow the guidelines below to confirm that your assignment is submitted.

HOW TO CHECK IF YOUR ASSIGNMENT IS SUBMITTED

Click on “Scores” tab of any course - you will see the list of graded assignments in it. Click on any of the assignments and it will take you to the graded assignment to be submitted.

Whenever you are submitting answers in a Graded Assignment, check the “Submitted date and time” that appears at the top of the Assignment page. It should reflect the date and time at which you submitted the answers. If it does not, kindly refresh and submit again.

The answers submitted must be available for viewing even if the Graded assignment page is refreshed. So please submit the answers and refresh the page and ensure this is visible and answers are correct as you had submitted.

Tips for submission:
a. As you work out the answers for questions - please keep submitting. You can anyway submit the assignment multiple times. So even if maybe you have not solved 2 questions out of 10, but have done 8 say 3 days before the deadline, submit the 8 questions. Atleast marks for that will be gotten.
b. Avoid last minute submission very close to the deadline. The portal will take finite time to scale up and cater to requests. You may have system or network issues at that time and all effort put in might go a waste. Try to do it atleast an hour or so before is a strong recommendation from our side.

Dear students, We are awarding marks to everyone for question 14 in graded assignment. This is done because the first option in the question stating "30% people are taller than you" is not correct. Week 3 Graded solutions are available in the portal.

NOTE: Week 3 Numerical summaries spreadsheet is uploaded in the portal in "Common data- Datasets" section. Please refrain from sending access requests for any sheets to Professor. We will upload the common datasets in the portal.

Dear Learner,

Based on feedback from the learners about the practice test conducted on 11 and 12 November, we have decided to increase the duration of the final Qualifier exam to be conducted on 22 November 2020 by half hour.

Hence the duration of the exam will be 3.5hours instead of 3hrs.
Exam timings will be 9am-12:30pm and 2:30pm-6pm.

There is no time cutoff for any particular subject and subjects can be attempted in any order. The entire time of 3.5hrs can be used to attempt any question of any subject.

Hall tickets will be the same as generated and shared with you - it will not be regenerated to reflect this change in timing.

Hope this helps you all in doing better in the qualifier exam. Good luck!

NOTE: Candidates will be allowed to bring normal wired 3.5 mm jack earphones or headphones with or without a mic. Bluetooth, wireless or any other variety won't be permitted.

Thanks,
IITM online degree team.

All the Best everyone for tomorrow's qualifier.🔥
omeone who is new to these subjects.

7. Can you release the question papers and solutions?
Yes, these will be released the coming week.

8. The Maths and Stats paper were lengthy:
While setting every paper, we estimate the time required carefully by solving and we add ample margins. As in any exam, there are all levels of students writing this exam too, and their perception of difficulty varies. Some have commented that Maths was lengthy and Stats was not. Some others have commented that Stats was lengthy and Maths was not. Few others have commented that both were lengthy and few others said both were very easy.

9. The students were kept in the dark about the difficulty level of questions for the qualifier:
We would like to reiterate that the difficulty level of the qualifier questions is the same as that of graded assignment questions. If you were presented questions from the graded assignment to be solved in 3.5hrs without ever having seen the questions before, you would have faced the same challenge. It is the time pressure in which you attempt these questions that gives you the perception of a greater or a lower difficulty level.

10. Consider graded assignments as eligibility for the qualifier:
We are unable to consider the graded assignments because it was unproctored and more than a week to 2 weeks time was provided, which could have been used for collaborative learning and solving of the same. The qualifier exam is a proctored exam with the primary intention of qualifying candidates who will be able to handle the pressure and intensity of courses in the coming months. The quizzes will be of the same level as the qualifier with much lesser time to prepare. Diluting the difficulty level or lowering the cut-off is not the solution, instead the students have to raise themselves up to the likely challenges ahead, fully accepting the fact that this is a course from IITM.

11. Comments on course structure, content support team etc:
There have been numerous positive comments on the structure and the content support. There have been criticisms as well. Be assured that we will look into all aspects very carefully and a dedicated team is constantly striving to provide a better experience to all learners. All your feedback will be looked into and suitable action, wherever necessary, will be taken.

We hope we can be on this journey together supporting each other in building the first successful large-scale, high-quality online degree offering. Let us keep the criticism constructive so that we may work on it - both ways. Feedback channels are always open though we have to see what is feasible to implement.

Results of this qualifier exam will be made available inside your candidate dashboard on 7 December 2020. You will be notified via emails and sms regarding this. The form for the next qualifier exam as well as registration form for foundational level courses will also open on Dec 7 2020.

Dear learner

This is to notify you that the question paper answered by you and the solution key to it are now available at the link bit.ly/2JzErH2

The responses given by you during the exam are also available as another pdf inside the same link.

The following have been incorporated while giving marks:

English:

Question 8 of Question Paper 2 & Question 10 of Question Paper 3 have been found to be ambiguous and therefore it has been decided to award full marks to anyone who has attempted each of the two questions.

Maths: Question Paper 2
Question 87: 2 marks have been awarded to candidates who entered the answer as 8 for this question assuming it to be the distance.

Question 90: Candidates who entered the value as -1.6 also are being awarded 2 marks for this question.

CT and Statistics: No changes.

The final results will be available on 7 December inside your login, with registration to foundational courses/next qualifier exam in April 2021 becoming available the same day.

The score that you calculate based on your responses will be normalised across the 3 question papers and the normalised score (which will be equal to or greater than the raw score) will be used to determine your qualification to the Foundational level of the BSc programme.
