Why Third World?

The โ€œthree worldsโ€ model first arose as a way of mapping the various players in the Cold War.

The third world countries comprised countries that were not part of the cold war.

The Cold War was a period of geopolitical tension between the United States and the Soviet Union and their respective allies, which began following World War II.

The cause of the cold war is thought to be tensions between the two nations at the end of World War II, the ideological conflict between both the United States and the Soviet Union, the emergence of nuclear weapons, and the fear of communism in the United States.
The Zagwe Dynasty

According to legend, Mara Tekle Haymanot of Agew married the daughter of the last Axumite king, Dil Naod. This singular event is thought to have been the birth of the Zagwe Dynasty.

The Zagwe dynasty was a line of 12th-13th-century Ethiopian kings. They were mainly descended from the Agew people. Its kings made Lalibela their capital.

โ€ข Emperor Lalibela is the Zagwe dynasty's greatest and most recognized ruler.

โ€ข Emperor Lalibela is best known for building the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, named after him. He did so in the hopes of building a 'New Jerusalem'. [Source]
The Zagwe Dynasty

The word Zagwe, according to my research, is thought to mean 2 things: 'of agew' and/or 'opponent'.

Lomii: A New Ethiopian Dating App

Meet Lomii, a dating app that revives an old Ethiopian ritual of throwing lemons at potential dates rather than swiping right.

The app also includes an interesting new function called Randchat, which allows you to chat with random anonymous users and only expose their identities once both sides choose to discover who they've been chatting with.

Check them out here ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฟ https://businessinfoeth.com/lomii-dating-disrupting-the-ethiopian-dating-scene-on-valentines-day/

The GERD | The Giant On The Blue Nile

The GERD is a hydroelectric dam that's being built over the blue nile.

โ€ข It's located in the Benishangul-Gumuz region, the western tip of Ethiopia.

โ€ข Construction began in 2011, and was expected to finish by 2017; it's 5 years late already.

โ€ข Late PM Meles Zenawi literally laid the foundation for the dam project, however, it was HIM Haile Selassie who conceived of the idea back in 1964.

Technical-facts

โ€ข The GERD is a roller-compacted concrete gravity type dam.

โ€ข It is a 6GW dam with a 74 billion cubic meter capacity. It is expected to produce 15,000 GWh yearly.

โ€ข The GERD is 75% complete as of July 2020. News outlets report that number has risen to 80%.

โ€ข Webuild Group is the main construction contractor for the dam project, while other foreign groups were awarded contracts for electromechanical works after METEC was removed and charged with corruption.

โ€ข The dam officially started filling in 2020, and is expected to finish filling in 4 to 7 years.

โ€ข When completed, the dam will be the largest of its kind in Africa, and 7th largest in the world.
