رویهمرفته میتوان گفت زمان حال استمراری زمانی به کار میرود که عمل انجام شده ماهیت کوتاه مدت دارد و/یا در لحظه صحبت کردن در حال انجام است، اما زمان حال ساده درباره کارهایی صحبت میکند که ماهیت بلند مدت یا تکراری دارند. نمونه های زیر را ببینید:

He is is speaking with his brother now
داره با برادرش صحبت میکنه
He speaks with his brother every night
هر شب با برادرش صحبت میکنه.

He is sleeping now
الان خوابه.
He sleeps at 11 pm every night
هر شب ساعت ۱۱ میخوابه.

ولی زمان حال استمراری فقط برای صحبت درباره چیزی که در لحظه در حال روی دادن است به کار نمیرود و یکی از عواملی که زبان آموزان را به اشتباه می اندازد همین است. از کاربرد های دیگر زمان حال استمراری صحبت کردن درباره برنامه های آینده است. نمونه ها را ببینید:

I am going to Shiraz next month
(بنا به برنامه)ماه دیگه میرم شیراز.
She is leaving this country for USA
(بنا به برنامه ای که داره)این کشور رو به مقصد آمریکا ترک میکنه.

Section 1. A woman was making a catering reservation for her husband’s birthday.

Section 2. A description of new cottages project near a park, including a map of the park’s facilities.

Section 3. Students discussed the studies they conducted including essays and presentations.

Section 4. A lecture about public and personal expenditure.

Reading test

Passage 1. About a picture that was found and suspected to be Leonardo da Vinci’s work.

Passage 2. A text that compared characteristics of oldest children to their brothers and sisters.

Passage 3. A text about accidental developments.

Writing test

Writing task 1 (a report)

We were given a table that described the prices of six different items (milk, newspapers, petrol, hamburgers, concert tickets and TV sets) in 1981 and 2011 and the percentages of price change. We had to compare them.

Writing task 2 (an essay)

Some people think that governments must insist on preserving traditional appearance of old buildings undergoing renovation or redevelopment. To what extent do you agree or disagree with the statement?

۶ روش برای بهبود وضعیت مکالمه انگلیسی و رساندن منظور:

۱٫ سرعت صحبت کردن خود را کم کنید:
شما ممکن است در زبان مادری خود بسیار ماهر باشید، اما اینکه انتظار داشته باشیم که مهارت شما در صحبت کردن زبان خارجی نیز مانند زبان مادری شما باشد انتظار درست و به جایی نمی باشد. مخصوصا اینکه اگر شما در مراحل ابتدایی یادگیری یک زبان باشید. معمولا در این مراحل به زبان آموزان گفته می شود که خیلی نگران اشتباهات خود نباشند، با این وجود، از همین مراحل اولیه زبان آموزان دوست دارند با ارائه یک مکالمه روان تاثیر مثبت بر روی مخاطب خود داشته باشند. برای غلبه بر این مشکل، شما می توانید سرعت حرف زدن خود را پائین بیاورید. اینکه شما آهسته صحبت کنید کسی برای شما خرده نمی گیرد. سخنرانان بزرگ نیز این کار را انجام می دهند تا بهتر منظور خود را برسانند و گفته میشود هر چه جمعیت مخاطبان و شنوندگان بیشتر باشد باید آهسته تر و شمرده تر صحبت کرد. انتخاب دقیق واژگان می تواند نشانه ی احترام به مخاطب شما باشد. این امر نشان می دهد که شما می خواهید بهترین پاسخ را به مخاطب خود بدهید.

۲٫ به خودتان فرصت فکر کردن دهید

ممکن است فکر کنید هنگامی که صحبت می کنید مخاطبان شما بی صبرانه منتظر هستند تا آنچه را که شما می خواهید بگویید را بشنوند. به نظر می رسد که این تفکر درستی نباشد چرا که مردم اغلب یک پاسخ منطقی و سنجیده را به یک پاسخ عجولانه ترجیح می دهند. بنابراین، عجله نکنید و راحت باشید. مسئله ی دیگری که به نظر عملی می رسد و شما می توانید آن را انجام دهید مجهز کردن خودتان به عبارات ثابتی است که شما می توانید به جای سکوت در هنگام حرف زدن از آنها استفاده کنید.
