زبان آموزان بسیاری در بخش ریدینگ آیلتس و تافل با چالش های جدی روبرو هستند و کمترین میزان پیشرفت زبان آموزان در همین مهارت دیده میشود. یکی از معمول ترین سوال ها درباره راهی که باید برای پاسخگویی به سوال های گزینش شود این است که اول باید متن را خواند و بدنبال پاسخگویی به سوال های طرح شده بود یا برعکس بهتر است اول سوال ها را خواند و سپس بدنبال پاسخ آن ها در متن بود؟ در این نوشته کوشش میکنیم به این موضوع بپردازیم.

واقعیت این است که هر دوی این روش ها میتوانند برای زبان آموزان مختلف سودمند و موثر باشند و روشی که پاسخگوی نیاز همه زبان آموزان باشد وجود ندارد. به نظر میرسد بیشتر کتاب ها به زبان آموزان توصیه میکنند نخست متن را به سرعت بخوانند(اسکیم کنند) و بعد از آن کوشش کنند با تصویری کلی که از متن دارند به سوال ها پاسخ دهند. از سوی دیگر بیشتر استاد ها و مدرسان آیلتس پیشنهاد میکنند باید مستقیما سراغ سوال ها رفت و از خواندن سریع متن چشمپوشی کرد. رویهمرفته زبان آموزان بسیاری به ویژه زبان آموزانی که سطح پایین تری دارند از هواداران رویکرد دوم هستند و حتی با توصیه مدرسان خود نیز پیش از پاسخگویی به پرسش ها به خواندن سریع و کلی متن نمیپردازند.
