دید کلی/خلاصه بخش بسیار مهمی در گزارش نمودار می باشد. بعضی ها مشکلی در توصیف جزئیات ندارند ولی توصیف طرح کلی نمودار برایشان دشوار است. در اینجا به چند نکته برای یک دید کلی بهتر اشاره می کنم:
۱- سعی کنید همیشه ۲ جمله بنویسید. این شما را وا می دارد که دو نکته اصلی یا کلی نمودار را توصیف کنید.
۲- هیچ عددی در دید کلی ذکر نکنید. اعداد را برای بدنة گزارش بگذارید.
۳- اگر نمودار یک بازة زمانی را نشان می دهد به تغییر کلی از ابتدا تا انتهای دوره را نگاه کنید.
۴- به روندهای کلی نگاه کنید و بخش هایی که جدا از آن روند هستند را نادیده بگیرید.
۵- اگر دورة زمانی در نمودار دیده نمی شود، نمی توانید به دنبال روند باشید. در عوض، به دنبال شباهت ها و تفاوت های بین موارد مختلف باشید.
۶- در یک نمودار خطی به دنبال بالاترین یا پایین ترین نقطه نباشید بلکه به صورت کلی بالاترین و پایین ترین موارد را توصیف کنید (برای مثال، کدام خط برای بیشتر یا همة مدت بالا بوده است؟)
۷- دید کلی خود را با یک جملة ساده شروع نمایید تا ممتحن بفهمد که این پاراگراف دید کلی شماست. برای مثال از عبارت های زیر استفاده نمایید:
It is clear that …; It is noticeable that …; Overall we can see that …
۸- اگر دو نمودار متفاوت وجود دارد یک جمل کلی در مورد هر یک بنویسید.
۹- اگر بیشتر از دو نمودار داده شده است قاعدتا به نحوی به هم مربوطند بنابراین دنبال دو جملة کلی بگردید.
۱۰- اگر قرار است یک نمودار یا یک نقشه را که دو چیز را مقایسه می کنند توصبف کنید، می توانید تفاوت های اصلی و تعداد تفاوت ها و شباهت ها را بین دو نمودار توصیف کنید.
