BREAKING: Two more merchant vessels have been hit by missiles. In modern times, I refuse to believe this is an accident. This is an [yet another] attack on shipping.

#1 - Moldova-flagged chemical tanker Millennial Spirit, fired upon by a Russian Navy ship 12 nautical miles south of Ukraine’s Yuzhniy port. However Moldova's Navy then said "the source of the missile launch is unknown.”

#2 - 2020-built panamax Namura Queen, owned by Japan’s Nissen Kaiun, was presumably hit by a rocket at the anchorage of the Yuzhny port.

#3 - [ see previous post ] - Turkish-owned bulk carrier Yasa Jupiter was hit by a missile off the coast of Odessa. The ship is chartered now by Cargill, shipping foodstuffs.

Merchant ships hit by missiles; Grain/fert exports STOP in Ukraine/Russia

Ukraine & Russia grains--30% of world global exports--are no longer moving as three merchant ships have been hit by missiles in the Black Sea, including one chartered by Cargill to move grains. Brazil is frantic after fertilizer imports from Russia are threatened. The global food trade is coming to a screeching halt and food prices are exploding even further as the conflict escalates. Christian breaks down the developments from just the last 48 hours in this Ice Age Farmer special report.

WSJ / western media now reporting exactly what I’d said yesterday - this is a shutdown of the shipping arteries that carry global food and fertilizer supplies.

Now western media can blame Putin for food shortages. Sure, it’s not the Grand Solar Minimum, or insane C19 policies, etc..

This doesn't need to become nuclear -- it is enough to be a cover story for why there is no food.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine throttled exports from one of the world’s largest grain suppliers after the country’s ports went quiet and traders halted operations.

At stake is the 13% of global corn exports and the 12% of wheat that flow from Ukraine. In threatening those flows Moscow risks disrupting supplies to China while setting off a scramble among customers in fragile Middle Eastern economies at a time when food inflation is already high.

An ocean vessel chartered by one of the world’s largest food suppliers, Cargill Inc., was hit by a projectile off the coast of Ukraine in the Black Sea on Thursday. Minnesota-based Cargill, which operates an export terminal in Ukraine, said the ship is seaworthy and no one was injured.

If the situation on the ground escalates to a position where farmers can’t apply pesticides or fertilizers to their wheat, which will start in March, that could reduce the yield by up to a third, presuming they can harvest in July, Mr. Lee said.

EU is 3rd biggest consumer of corn, and imports majority (70%!) from Ukraine annually.

Honest question, as ports are being closed to Russia: where are they going to get their food this year? Given Brazil’s weather struggles, and Bayer declaring force majeur in US, it’s just not possible.

This isn’t just “sanctions” — we are watching a mass suicide ritual. Sorry to be blunt. I just don’t understand how people don’t see this, but I guess they are busy pouring out bottles of vodka.

Suddenly the deagle population predictions of massive losses across western countries, while Russia/China stay flat, make absolute sense…

Shippers Cut Off Russia - Wheat Price Explodes - Cyberattacks on Shipping

As Major shipping companies are cutting service to Russia and UK bans shipments from Russia, the disruption to global food supply is now a lasting one. What effect will cutting out the breadbasket of the world have, and--more importantly--who benefits from doing so? Christian breaks it down in this Ice Age Farmer broadcast.

FOOD CRISIS: EU expects shortages, S. Korea feed producers to declare Force Majeur

The food crisis is here. The EU's agricultural ministers held an emergency meeting, and are set to activate a "EU Food Crisis Contingency Mechanism" in anticipation of the shortages resulting from the blocked 40% of global wheat exports that are no longer flowing from Ukraine/Russia. S. Korea's animal feed producers are preparing to declare force majeur, unable to produce feed wiithout the 300,000 metric tons they'd expected from Ukraine now stuck in the Black Sea. Nations are banning exports to cling to what food stocks they DO have. Things are escalating quickly in the food crisis. Stay tuned to the Ice Age Farmer channel and START GROWING FOOD NOW.

Two more merchant (civilian) vessels have been attacked this week in the Black Sea. It's safe to say grain shipments are not going to resume any time soon:

A Bangladeshi cargo ship was hit by a missile, killing one of the crew.

An Estonian vessel was sunk outside Odessa, Thursday, possibly after hitting a mine, and four crew members are missing.

Fertilizer is the most peaceful weapon in wars!”

As I’ve covered, The EU’s Farm-to-Fork program demands farmers not farm all their land in order to continue receiving subsidies (required to be economically viable). The more they don’t cultivate the more money they get.

Germany‘s agriculture minister Cem Özdemir has just confirmed that the EU‘s reforms are to remain in force despite the fact that Ukraine/Russia’s grains, seeds and fertilizer have been cut off.

German farmers are outraged. You do not have to speak his language to feel this man’s passion or understand the urgency and insanity of the situation.

Some of his words translated:
“In the midst of such a catastrophe, green eco-fanaticism … is putting ecological madness before human lives!

"Hunger is murder, Herr Özdemir!

"Brace for Rationing" - Food Crisis Escalates - EU farmers furious

The food crisis is escalating: more countries are halting exports, but even as the EU converges a food crisis meeting, they refuse to relax restrictions on farmers. Similarly, the US is not waiving biofuel mandates even as grain prices explode. Christian explains that this crisis is needed to advance the agenda, and reiterates the priorities for your victory garden to insulate your family and community from this worldwide food crisis. Ukraine is about 3 weeks out from planting this season’s crop — and seeds are not showing up. Forget the early analyses about “25% hit to yield” - this is devolving to a completely catastrophic blow to food production. In the area that supplied 40% of worlds grain.

Ukraine poultry companies report major losses caused by the Russian invasion and direct attacks on poultry production assets and warehouses.

Ukraines largest egg producer said that the Russian aggression caused significant losses in production capacity, with several key egg farms shut down and destroyed, while at some operational farms the birds were left without feed and “condemned to death”. To date, the overall financial losses the company sustained have reached 1.5 billion hryvnias (US$51 million).

EVACUATE THE GRAIN:

Nearly 25 million tonnes of grain stuck in Ukraine, says UN food agency

Nearly 25 million tonnes of grains are stuck in Ukraine and unable to leave the country due to infrastructure challenges and blocked Black Sea ports including Mariupol, a U.N. food agency official said on Friday.

It’s an almost grotesque situation we see at the moment in Ukraine with nearly 25 mln tonnes of grain that could be exported but that cannot leave the country simply because of lack of infrastructure, the blockade of the ports,” Josef Schmidhuber, FAO Deputy Director, Markets and Trade Division told a Geneva press briefing via Zoom.

Schmidhuber said the full silos could result in storage shortages during the next harvest in July and August.

Head of the WTO announced, “It would really help the world if we could evacuate this grain (from Ukraine),” — Earlier this week, the head of the World Trade Organization told Reuters she was “seriously worried” about spiraling food prices and seeking solutions alongside other partners.

Ukraine cuts Russian gas to Europe, threatening energy supply

Kiev cites "force majeure" to halt a third of Russian transited gas flow to Europe, while Gazprom says there have been no issues that would justify the move.

Gas from this connection will not be accepted into the transit system of Ukraine starting at 7 am on Wednesday, OGTSU said. Sokhrankovka accounts for almost a third of the Russian gas that transits through Ukraine to Europe – up to 32.6 million cubic meters per day – according to the operators.

[IAF: German energy ministers confirm their supply is as low as 2-3 weeks. Keep an eye on Europe.]

Russian gas conglomerate Gazprom has received no confirmation of force majeure or any obstacles to continued transit of gas through a junction in Lugansk Region, the company said on Tuesday, after Ukraine’s operator OGTSU announced it would halt further deliveries starting May 11, due to the presence of “Russian occupiers.”

Gas Transit Services of Ukraine (OGTSU) declared force majeure on Tuesday, saying that it was impossible to continue the transit of gas through a connection point and compressor station located in the Lugansk area.

Egypt BANS all transactions of wheat other than selling to the government. This is the next domino to fall as the big producers ban exports — countries that need imports (like Egypt) start to take total control of what remains and ration it:

Egypt banned trading of wheat by third parties until the end of August, the cabinet said on Tuesday, preventing any sales other than to the government.

Egypt aims to buy the whole harvest from local farmers, as it targets 6 million tonnes of domestic wheat this year after the Ukraine war cut it off from much of the Black Sea wheat it relied on.

Ukraine: gain exports plummet 44% year over year:

Ukraine exported 1.11 million tonnes of grain in the first 22 days of June, down 44% from the same period in 2021, Reuters reported, citing agriculture ministry data released June 27.

The volumes included 978,000 tonnes of corn, 104,000 tonnes of wheat and 24,000 tonnes of barley, the data showed. Ukraine exported up to 6 million tonnes of grain a month before Russia launched an invasion on Feb. 24.

Ukraine is among the world’s largest exporters of wheat and corn. Exporters are struggling to get what’s left in storage out of the country, because Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea, like the key city of Odessa, are under blockade by Russia.

Russia Sends Combine Harvesters to Occupied Regions of Ukraine

Russia has sent combine harvesters from Crimea to two Russian-occupied regions of Ukraine to cover a shortage of equipment needed to bring in the crop, a representative of a Russian-installed local administration said.

The official said the harvesters were needed because "the equipment that was there before had either been dismantled or taken away by the previous owners outside the regions", he said. [IAF: By those who are consistently working to destroy global food production]

Evgeny Balitsky, head of the occupation administration in Zaporizhzhia, said on social media that these combine harvesters were provided by Russia's agriculture ministry.

Fear of global food shortage looms as Russia steps back from Ukraine grain deal

U.S. President Joe Biden warned that global hunger could increase because of Russia’s suspension of a U.N.-brokered deal to allow safe passage for ships carrying Ukrainian grain.

“It’s really outrageous,” said Biden speaking in Wilmington, Delaware, on Saturday. “There’s no merit to what they’re doing. The UN negotiated that deal and that should be the end of it.”
Biden spoke hours after Russia announced it would immediately halt participation in the agreement, alleging ghat Ukraine staged a drone attack Saturday against Russia’s Black Sea Fleet ships off the coast of occupied Crimea. Ukraine has denied the attack.
