@aalaeeTOEFLiBT

Today's writing Task 2 topic:                                                 Do you agree or disagree?                                                     It is more important for students to study history and literature than it is for them to study science and mathematics.

Model Answer 1:                                                                  Many people believe that students should give more attention to the subjects of history and literature rather than mathematic or science. I personally disagree with the statement, as I believe that all subjects that are taught in school are important and the following paragraphs will explain some of the reasons in details.

Firstly, it is a fact that all subjects that are delivered at school are important. All the subjects that are thought in school will be useful for students when they grow up, even though each student will be a specialized in some specific subject. For example, although a student might become a history teacher in the future, but it is essential for him/ her to learn about mathematic and economics as well. Since as a teacher, he/ she will be given other tasks besides tutoring such as preparing the expenditure budget of his class for one year and that require some accounting and calculation skills.

Secondly, it is obvious that all individuals have their own different talent. Some students may have a personal interest in studying in English literature while others might have the passion in learning physical science. And if the school only focus on studying two or three particular subject such as literature or history, then it would be unfair for students who have the passion in mathematic or science.

In conclusion, I do not agree that school should emphasize more on the subjects of history and literature than mathematics or science. I do believe that schools should teach each of the subjects proportionately since all of the subjects are beneficial for the students. Besides that, each of the student have their own different talent, therefore school cannot enforce students to focus studying some specific subject only.

Model Answer 2:
Some people believe that students should study more history and literature. However, other people think that studying science and mathematics is more important. From my experience and observation I think that students should study both science and history. Bellow I will outline some basic reasons to support my opinion.

First of all, I believe that studying history and literature is important for the range of interests of students and people on the whole. It extends the range of interests and teach people to analyze their history. Every person should know the history of the country where he or she was born. Knowledge of one's roots and origins gives the opportunity to understand many things that are around.

Second of all, I think that this kind of knowledge is essential for students who are going to be lawyers, newspapermen, political figures, etc. One more reason to study history is that it helps one to analyze mistakes made by ancestors or learn from their wise decisions. From the other side, I think that it is also important for students to study science. Personally, I like studding mathematics because for me it is very interesting to work with figures, analyze them, develop different ways to solve the problem. It teaches one to think logically and improves one's ability to think non-typically. I think it is great.

Studding of science allows people to improve their life conditions, make discoveries, develop innovations, etc. Scientists work on new vaccines and pills to make our life longer and happier. They make researches in different fields from medicine to space. Because of this kind of knowledge humankind has opportunities to watch TV, fly, using jet airplanes, surf an Internet, play computer games, watch movies, drive cars, etc.

In conclusion, I think that students must study many things including science and literature in order to succeed in the modern world.

@aalaeeTOEFLiBT
Reading
@aalaeeTOEFLiBT

Listening

Speaking
Writing
Students respect their teacher less than past, agree or disagree?

Nostalgia (n.)
Nostalgia is an affectionate feeling you have for the past, especially for a particularly happy time.

A NOSTALGIC refers to a person who suffers from nostalgia on a regular basis, frequently longing for times past to occur once again. In response to this, the friend of a NOSTALGIC has a choice of a few routes to take in order to "cure" the person from his/her NOSTALGIA:
1. Show the nostalgic a good time to remind him that the future isn't so bleak after
all.
2. Remind the person that the past wasn't that great after all by reminding the
person of the negative aspects of the time.
3. Say angrily to the NOSTALGIC, "Before! Before! You're living in the past, man!
Quit living in the past!"

Speaking Task 3:
The woman is not in favor of those two ways that have been proposed in the student’s letter regarding encouraging more students to read school newspaper.
As for the point about lowering the price of the newspaper to draw a larger subscription, she argues that right now the newspaper is already a bargain with its price at 45 cents, and those pictures on the paper, are of high quality, so the price they are charging is legitimate.
Plus, for providing better services like dispatching newspapers to dormitories, she points out that the university lacks staff; if dispatching service were added, they would have
to hire more employees, which means higher costs for the university.
That’s why she thinks those two ways are not feasible.

Speaking Task 4:
Cyclic population change is a phenomenon where the interaction between species will form a repeating cycle in which populations of predator and prey increase and decrease
then eventually return to their original size.
For example, wolf is predator and mouse is prey, it would be good for us to look at how the populations of these two species affect each other in phases; in the first phase, we have a lot of mice and only a few wolves, wolves have a large food supply, so they can live longer and more healthily, reproduce and feed their pups, then wolves’ population will grow, and when it comes to the point where there are more wolves to eat the mice, the mouse population starts to decline, and this is phase two, wolves would have a hard time to survive, let alone feed their young, so the wolves’ population begins to shrink, therefore fewer mouse would get eaten, so that their population will amass, and we would reach the third phase, that is abundant mice and not many wolves, equivalent to phase one, right where we started.

Speaking Task 5:
The last movie that’s gonna be shown in tomorrow’s film class is the woman’s favorite and she is planning to write a paper about it; however, she has an appointment with the doctor at the same time. She could either rent a copy of the movie to watch it later, or write her paper about one of those films shown before.
I would go for the first option. Missing the class doesn’t necessarily mean that she would
miss out all those discussions and the professor’s perspective that might be essential for her paper, actually, with various digital gadgets available nowadays, she could simply ask her classmates to film the whole class session with a film recorder for her later paper-writing use. What’s more, it’s kind of torture to write about something she is not fond of and she wouldn't be as motivated and inspired. She might procrastinate, causing her lose the score of the paper.
#TOEFL #iBT March 26, 2016: @aalaeeTOEFLiBT
Speaking Task 6:
Usually companies would have some contingency plans in place to deal with unexpected incidents that cause some damages for them. And a contingency plan usually contains
two parts.
The first part is how to continue, that is to say, a company would work out a plan to deal with the contingency directly to minimize the impact. For instance, if a ski area is suffering a lack of snowfall in a particular year that would render the resort unable to use, the company would resolve the problem by purchasing some snow cannons to supplement the natural snow with artificial ones, thus avoid being shut down and lose a lot of money. Another part is how to communicate to the public. The same company might send out emails to their potential customers to notify them that they are experiencing snowfall shortage this year, and as a result, they might not be having a great time than they expected, so by lowering their customers’ expectations, the company wouldn't be expecting as much complaints, and thus bear less or even no damage from the snowfall shortage.
