Doubts:

1. Maximum period – 26 weeks:
A woman employee can take maternity leave for a total of 26 weeks (about 6 months and 2 weeks) for childbirth.


2. Pre-delivery limit – up to 8 weeks before expected delivery:
Out of these 26 weeks, she can take a maximum of 8 weeks before her expected delivery date.

Example: If a woman’s expected delivery date is 10th December, she can start her maternity leave from up to 15th October (i.e., 8 weeks earlier).


3. Remaining weeks – after delivery:
The remaining 18 weeks (26 – 8 = 18) can be availed after childbirth.

Correction :

The employer contributes not more than 1% of the wages of the employee to this fund.

Currently, the contribution rate is 0.5% of wages, subject to a minimum of ₹75 per month per employee.

(So your note “0.5% or ₹75” is correct.)
