Assam introduces Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill in the Legislative Assembly.The Bill was tabled today by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Atul Bora on behalf of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. It is scheduled for discussion on 27 May.The proposed legislation aims to address key issues including legal age of marriage, polygamy, inheritance, and live-in relationships.
Tribal communities in both hill and plain areas will be exempted. With this move, Assam is set to become the third state after Uttarakhand and Gujarat to table a UCC Bill.

โก๏ธ Agreed on Indo-Pacific Maritime Surveillance Initiative and on a Common Operating Picture in the maritime domain. Will consider an expert panel on Port Infrastructure, collaborate on a pilot port project in Fiji, and on undersea cables.
โก๏ธ Finalised the QUAD Critical Minerals Framework. Also signed the India-US Critical Minerals Framework. QUAD is working with other like minded countries in this sector.
โก๏ธ Announced the QUAD initiative on Indo-Pacific Energy Security in technology, management, policy, international market analysis, and emergency response exercises.

Sikkim has been officially declared a Fully Literate State under the ULLAS (Understanding of Lifelong Learning for All in Society) initiative during the convocation ceremony of Sikkim University in Gangtok, in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu.
The ULLAS initiative, launched by the Ministry of Education in alignment with NEP 2020, aims to promote adult education, functional literacy and lifelong learning for individuals aged 15 years and above, while fostering continuous learning and skill development.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is reportedly reviving a decade-old proposal to introduce polymer banknotes, with a pilot project expected in the near future.
Unlike traditional paper notes, polymer banknotes are made from a special plastic material and are known for being:
โ More durable
โ Water-resistant
โ Harder to counterfeit
โ Cleaner and longer-lasting
Several countries, including #Australia, #Canada, the #UnitedKingdom, #NewZealand, and #Singapore, have already adopted polymer currency because of its enhanced security features and longer lifespan.
If implemented, this could mark one of the biggest changes to India's #currency system in recent years.
