Assam introduces Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill in the Legislative Assembly.The Bill was tabled today by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Atul Bora on behalf of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. It is scheduled for discussion on 27 May.The proposed legislation aims to address key issues including legal age of marriage, polygamy, inheritance, and live-in relationships.
Tribal communities in both hill and plain areas will be exempted. With this move, Assam is set to become the third state after Uttarakhand and Gujarat to table a UCC Bill.

Just completed a productive QUAD FMM with colleagues Secretary Marco Rubio of the US, Senator Penny Wong of Australia, and FM Toshimitsu Motegi of Japan.
Three major takeaways:
β‘οΈ Agreed on Indo-Pacific Maritime Surveillance Initiative and on a Common Operating Picture in the maritime domain. Will consider an expert panel on Port Infrastructure, collaborate on a pilot port project in Fiji, and on undersea cables.
β‘οΈ Finalised the QUAD Critical Minerals Framework. Also signed the India-US Critical Minerals Framework. QUAD is working with other like minded countries in this sector.
β‘οΈ Announced the QUAD initiative on Indo-Pacific Energy Security in technology, management, policy, international market analysis, and emergency response exercises.
