The National Council of Educational Research and Training [NCERT] has recently published a social science textbook, โExploring Society: India and Beyond," Grade 8 (Part II), which contained Chapter IV titled โThe Role of Judiciary in our Society."
The Director and Members of NCERT hereby tender an unconditional and unqualified apology for the said Chapter IV. The entire book has been withdrawn and is not available.

In a significant order on the right to die with dignity, the Supreme Court of India allowed passive euthanasia for a 31-year-old man from Chandigarh who has remained in a persistent vegetative state since a 2013 road accident.
Acting on a plea filed by his family, the court permitted withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment after considering medical reports and existing legal safeguards.
