The Oraon Tribe - Language, Livelihood & Celebrations.
The Oraon are one of India’s significant tribal communities with a rich cultural identity rooted in language, land, and tradition.
Their native language, Kurukh, belongs to the Dravidian family.
Settled agriculture forms the backbone of their economy, with paddy as the principal crop.
This is supplemented by wage labour, hunting, fishing, and the collection of Minor Forest Produce, showcasing a well-rounded relationship with their natural environment.
Culturally, the Oraon mark the year with two key celebrations — Sarhul, a spring festival tied to the blossoming of the Sal tree, and the Karma Festival held in September-October, where communities come together for the traditional Karma dance, a ritualistic worship of Karma tree branches.

Kerala to become Keralam:-
The Union Cabinet on Tuesday (February 24, 2026) approved the renaming of the State of “Kerala” to “Keralam”, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced. On June 24, 2024, the Kerala Assembly had unanimously passed a resolution urging the Union government to rename the State as “Keralam”. The move came ahead of the Kerala Assembly elections expected to be held in April-May. After receipt of the views of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, the government of India will obtain the recommendation of the president for introduction of the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026 to alter the name of Kerala as ‘Keralam’ in Parliament, an official release said.

India has 44 #UNESCO World Heritage Sites as of February 2026 — spread across monuments, living cities, archaeological parks, forests and wetlands.
By category, the list includes 36 cultural sites, 7 natural sites and 1 mixed site.
The yearwise view tracks how #India’s UNESCO footprint has expanded over time — from early inscriptions such as the #TajMahal and Agra Fort, to later additions including Jaipur City, Kakatiya Rudreshwara (Ramappa), #Santiniketan, the Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysalas, and the Moidams (the mound burial system).
The geography is wide-ranging: from the Great Himalayan National Park and #NandaDevi and Valley of Flowers in the north, to the Western Ghats and Great Living #CholaTemples in the south, and #Kaziranga, Manas and the Sundarbans in the east.

Their ancient art — Toda embroidery, known locally as pugur or pukhoor — is a GI-tagged craft so intricately made that it creates the stunning illusion of woven cloth, all made with just an off-white cotton base, rich red and black woollen threads, and a single metal needle.
The motifs draw inspiration from the natural surroundings of the Nilgiri Hills — depicting mountains, squirrel stripes, butterfly patterns, and beehive structures, each carrying the essence of the Toda community's deep connection with their environment.

The Union Government has decided to revise the Base Year for the calculation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to 2022-23, Consumer Price Index(CPI) to 2024, and Index of Industrial Production (IIP) to 2022-23.
