A renewed Chandipura virus outbreak has raised alarm in Gujarat, with 35 confirmed infections and 22 child deaths reported this monsoon. Spread mainly by sandflies, the disease can progress rapidly from fever and vomiting to seizures, coma and fatal brain inflammation.
There is no approved vaccine or specific treatment, making early recognition, urgent hospital care and protection against insect bites essential.

Supreme Court on August 4 proposed linking fuel supply with valid vehicle insurance as part of a pilot project to curb large number of uninsured vehicles on Indian roads.
The Court said 56% of vehicles on Indian roads are uninsured and directed that mandatory third-party insurance for new cars be increased from three to four years and for new two-wheelers from five to six years.
The Court also directed the IRDAI to increase mandatory third-party insurance period for new private cars from three years to four years and for new two-wheelers from five years to six years.
