According to a comparison of the new UDISE+ 2025-26 report with 2022-23 data, private unaided schools have recorded a 17% increase in enrolments over the past three years, while government schools have seen a 13% decline. Teacher numbers followed a similar trend, growing by 17% in private schools compared with just 5% in government institutions.
Beyond enrolment, the data highlights key indicators: the national secondary school dropout rate stands at 7% (highest in Ladakh and Karnataka), while the student gender ratio is 938 girls for every 1,000 boys.
