Do you want joyful swagger? Here’s how you start to lay hold of it...
Friends,

This election—this entire year—has taught us what a washcloth feels like as it is tossed around in the dryer. We are being spun about in a disconcerting frenzy. We are watching sweeping changes occur in most every aspect of our society at an unbelievable pace. Fittingly, it is Vladimir Lenin who best describes this year. He said, “There are decades where nothing happens and there are weeks where decades happen.”

A lot is happening. And much of it we won’t understand for a long time. After all, it’s hard to know the size of a hurricane and the magnitude of its destruction when you are still in the middle of it.

And this storm isn’t close to over. The winds are still howling.

So now is the time to tie yourself to the mast of God’s Word. Cling to its teachings on His sovereignty, goodness, and providence. Meditate on God’s faithfulness to His covenant people throughout history. He keeps His promises. Thank Him for all the blessings He has poured out into your life. Rest in Him. Trust that no one can frustrate His purposes. No one.

Remember the words of the prophet:

Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth
Does not become weary or tired.
His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives strength to the weary,
And to the one who lacks might He increases power.
Though youths grow weary and tired,
And vigorous young men stumble badly,
Yet those who wait for the Lord
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary. (Isa 40)

Our strength is unending when its source is a trust in the Lord. So go forth in strength this week. God is for us, who can be against us?

And, yes, it’s true that the nations plot and rage against the Church and even our Savior. However, the psalmist reminds us that “He who sits in the heavens laughs, the Lord scoffs at them” (Ps 2:1-4). Laugh with Him. We serve a God who made the “defeat” of the cross into the victory of the Son. The Church is still winning.
