The Annual Spring Fest of NIT Rourkela named NITRUTSAV had tied up with Slick which allows people to share their thoughts and views anonymously. It made the downloading of the app compulsory by the NITR students, claiming that passes to the pro-show will be available on the app to enter the pro-shows.Majority of the students downloaded the app and few of them posing anonymously posted degrading, derogatory and disgusting posts and polls on the female students of the institute as well as on different aspects of the institute like departments and authorities.The organising team rather than solving the issue, apparently cut ties with the app. Yet the app has not been taken down in the institute and the comments and posts continue to be circulated among the student community.
The Fest Organizing body, currently is not acknowledging the issue and the fest is been continued despite the trauma and rage among the students.

Though the police have taken the attacker (they both studied in IIT Madras together) into custody, the motive for the attack is yet to be known.
Jayanchandran sir is admitted to a private hospital, suffered minor injuries in the attack and his condition is stable, the hospital authorities said.
Attacker said Jayachandran sir helped him financially for the treatment when he recently suffered a cardiac arrest. “A few important documents, which Vinod (the attacker) had to submit to his institute, were with Jayachandran sir. When the NIT faculty declined to hand over them, an enraged Vinod stabbed Jayachandran,” said an officer.
