The Way
There is no name for what we are, there are no titles or denominations, merely adjectives that may or may not successfully convey the Old Ways of our people. When the term Ethnic Faith is used it is not as a name for a religion but merely an incomplete description for something too vast to define.
One may call it a Worldview, one may call it a Way of Being, The Way if you so choose. But like Ethnic Faith these are but descriptions not names. For a Name once given implies a life and a death, a fixed expiring identity.
The Way is not a fixed idea, it has no Dogma nor doctrine. It follows no more hierarchy than does the Wolf and the Sheep.
A whole that contains within it spirits, gods, heroes but also trees, animals, and our nearby neighbors and kin. There is no delineation the Elf is no less natural than the tree neath where it sits.
A Song is no less magic for its lacking of Abra and Kadabra. A forest no less enchanted and mysterious, a home no less blessed, a ghost no less beloved for its seeming mundanity. The natural everyday is itself a part of the magic of life. It is not set in a time of legend it is set in the Never ending story of Now and Forever. A History both real and feigned.
To remove it and isolate it, to claim one requires some intermediary, some ritual space, is to remove oneself to spend most of ones days in exile from The Way.
We are not APART from the forest we are A PART of the forest.-TLK

At the center of The Way is not the gods, the spirits, or the stars and planets but the People and their role in the broader whole.

The Storyteller by Ludwig Knaus
"The young man was riding when he came to a peculiar forest and began to grow weary and eventually sleep. Then he was awoke by a songbird who pecked at his face!'Why do you hurt me so?' asked the Young Man.
'If I had not you would have slept until you die you have already slept ten years' The Young Man then felt at his face and found that a large beard
(Like this one the storyteller said feeling his beard to mime the motion) had grown upon his face and knew the bird told the truth. Are You Tough Enough for Hyperborean Radio (Uncensored)?

The Bionic Hearth
Light, warmth, food, community and comfort. These are what the Hearth brings to mind.
The Heart of the Home from whence spring stories, holiday dinners, and ghosts to dance with in the midnight hours. Yet the Hearth was not the Hearth because it was the fireplace. It was the hearth because these things were there. From ancient campfires to stories of Faerie and the Wild Hunt told round the fire in the last century. This was where traditions were passed on, stories were told, meals were shared, where families worked, laughed, loved and rested. Alas... no more.
Slowly the hearth faded replaced by the stories and speeches of the flickering radio light followed soon after by the glimmering screen, the oral tradition finally severed. No more was comfort brought by Mothers loving hands and Fathers strength. No more were Grandfathers tales and Grandmothers Sewing kept alive in a living tradition. Instead the stories, the cooking, the ghosts to dance with were mere lights flickering across the screen. The Hearth was no longer made of flames and spirits, memories and traditions. It was a commodity of the Neon Gods. The Hearth like much of life had been rendered Bionic. For time and attention, tradition and stories were not taught by our flesh and blood. But by the Magic Box we brought into our homes. The New Hearth, The Television.
Yet even its reign was short lived, soon instead of crowding around the Grand Storyteller with endless tales more and more Bionic Hearths were born until we carried them in our pockets, Hearths without homes. But these are not True Hearths. Homes no longer have a Hearth; the love, attention and community it once wrought, burnt low and smothered in ash and fiberoptic cables.
Instead we give up our lives and souls to the False Hearth we cannot live without, and thus sell our soul from our own pockets.-TLK

Rituals
So many people are worried about rituals. What ritual do you do for this? What ritual do you do for that? How is ritual done?
Why is this....?
It is because they care. They want to do things right!
The want to make sure they are making the gods happy, they want to make sure they are making the people happy, they want to make sure everyone knows that they care, deeply and truly way deep down inside.
I know this sounds hollow, empty and frankly underwhelming to most people who hold in their minds images of grand rituals intricate and full of sacral secrets, a grand performance!
But really. Truly. The most important rituals you can possibly do in all of your life to let both the Gods and the people know that you truly and deeply care are the ones you do without even realizing you did anything at all. THOSE are the rituals that matter.
They are sincere, they are innocent, with an openness that cannot be matched by any ceremony or pomp even with the grandest of regalia.
The ritual of a firm handshake and an open smile, the ritual of a hug, the ritual of holding the door for someone, the ritual of lending a hand, the ritual of saying hello, the ritual of shared laughter, the ritual of inviting conversation, the ritual of impromptu games, the ritual of greeting a stranger.
THESE THINGS SHOW YOU CARE.
Caring. Offering aid or comfort. Teaching. Listening. Laughing. Loving.
Risk everything for your people. True there is always the risk of rejection but all rituals hold risks. So be brave and show your courage to the world!
If what you seek is true ritual with impact felt through the ages. Then these.... these are the ones that truly matter.

Illustrations for Sleeping Beauty by Christian Birmingham 2004
"When the King’s son came near to the thorn-hedge, it was nothing but large and beautiful flowers, which parted from each other of their own accord, and let him pass unhurt, then they closed again behind him like a hedge. In the castle-yard he saw the horses and the spotted hounds lying asleep; on the roof sat the pigeons with their heads under their wings. And when he entered the house, the flies were asleep upon the wall, the cook in the kitchen was still holding out his hand to seize the boy, and the maid was sitting by the black hen which she was going to pluck. He went on farther, and in the great hall he saw the whole of the court lying asleep, and up by the throne lay the King and Queen.
Then he went on still farther, and all was so quiet that a breath could be heard, and at last he came to the tower, and opened the door into the little room where Briar-rose was sleeping. There she lay, so beautiful that he could not turn his eyes away; and he stooped down and gave her a kiss. But as soon as he kissed her, Briar-rose opened her eyes and awoke, and looked at him quite sweetly".-Briar Rose, Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm

The Shigir Idol and Narrative Archaeology
"The Shigir Sculpture, or Shigir Idol is the oldest known wooden sculpture in the world, made during the Mesolithic period, shortly after the end of the last Ice Age. The wood it was carved from is approximately 12,000 years old. It is displayed in the Sverdlovsk Regional Museum of Local Lore in Yekaterinburg, Russia".- Wikipedia

It is common when such momentous finds are discovered by archaeologists for them to employ Narrative and Storytelling for Archaeological Education methods, which is precisely what they did. They told a story as to what they wished it to be that might garner attention from those curious about our past. But the prevailing conception of the Shigir Idol does not take into account many things. Including where it was found and all of its pieces.
Instead we propose it to be an intricately carved boat much in the fashion we have done since antiquity and continue on into the modern day, painting and carving images and faces into our boats (

However... this conclusion requires ignoring pieces of the artifact)It is common when such momentous finds are discovered by archaeologists for them to employ Narrative and Storytelling for Archaeological Education methods, which is precisely what they did. See Image With Red Arrows). This is further substantiated by its presence in a peat bog, as frequently these bogs were once lakes or ponds. As well as it's size which matches a small boat.(Pictures Include a close up of the Shigir Idol, a more modern prow carving and an example of a head carved on a Scandinavian Wagon to best illustrate this point.)Are You Tough Enough for Hyperborean Radio (Uncensored)
