Gwynn Ap Nudd, a welsh god and king of the Tylwyth Teg or "Fair Folk" Making him a fairy king in welsh legend. His name means white son of Nudd and he is described as having a blackened face. He is a prominent figure in some Arthurian lore and apparently fights every may day following the intervention of Arthur against Gwythyr to keep his sister Creiddylad from marrying him. on judgement day he the final winner will receive her. He rules the Welsh otherworld of Annwn, and serves as a psychopomp on the battlefield, where he is well known for his battle prowess. He is a part of Arthurs retinue especially when hunting the boar Troit AKA Twrch Trwyth as it is impossible to hunt the enchanted and vicious boar without Gwynn's aid. He is known as the hope of armies and hero of hosts. When asked where he comes from he merely replies "I come from battle and conflict". The Owl is known as the foul of Gwynn Ap Nudd and he is the leader of the wild host in welsh lore. He is said to have been accompanied by a hound especially when with the wild Hunt. Tannhäuser in the Venusberg by John Collier, 1901- Venusberg was often a synonymn for a sort of otherworld appearing in Teutonic mythology, Venus would often replace either fae or local goddesses like Holle or Perchta. It became increasingly associated with witches and here depicts a common legend where Tannhauser is seduced by the beautiful "Venus" likely Holle or a similar goddess. -TAO

Many folks who follow the Tribe of the Fox are from the USA🇺🇸. The Netherlands and the USA have been allies ever since 1776. Dutch patriots sold weapons to the Patriots in the New World fighting for their freedom. So much weapons that England declared war on the Dutch Republic (1780-1784). The American Patriots created a great Teutonic nation. So hail our American pagan/heathen brothers and sisters... a big hail from the tiny but great nation of the Netherlands🇳🇱. An "American" Spirit
The European spirit pervades all Europeans. Even unknowingly we will put forth that spirit out into the world. Even lacking understanding. This is true for all Europeans regardless of where they are even when they present things in ways that are not positive…
Thanks to the Tribe of the Fox for sharing my video, hail to our European kin that have stayed upon Mother Europa.
Werewolves: Like the last two this is by no means a comprehensive post on what is likely one of the most complex and important beasts of European myth. Or is it a beast? The Werewolf is one of the most famous and widespread creatures of European mythology. It has even incorporated figures like the Beast of Gevaudan and Red Riding Hood which originally lacked a werewolf origin. While some may argue King Lycaon is the first Werewolf given his transformation into a wolf by Zeus, other figures can lay claim to quite a bit of Werewolf mythology. For example a form of the Berserk known as Ulfhednar took the wolf as totem animal. A Berserk being a pre christian sort of battle trance that often used an animal like a bear, wolf, or boar as a totemic animal. If the phenomenon was genetic instead of just taught it may explain some of the werewolves of myth. As how to tame it may have been lost. While others use the fear of the werewolf to cover up their own crimes saying the devil gave them a belt that allowed them to turn into a wolf and kill. Though when the Christian influence is peeled off the more culturally important nature of the Werewolf becomes clear. Such as the Celtic Werewolf Warriors that were supposedly paid in babies to eat (Likely they were taking them to replenish their numbers as a way to combat the growing Church). Or the importance of Werewolves among the Balts, where they are depicted facing off against crusaders. Some gods are even tied into the werewolf such as Simargl, Fenrir, Odin, Veles, and many more. With Simargl’s Priests said to be werewolves. Some accounts even echo this holy nature of the werewolf with captured werewolves saying they are “The hounds of heaven” Though to which gods who can say. Werewolves were also not tied to the full moon originally this was likely a conflation with the concept of Lunacy (Going crazy on the full moon) and the Silver bullet is often traced to the Beast of Gevaudan though who can say which is true. Other stories tell of Werewolves who never shape shift like the Wulver of the British Isles, a benign fisherwolf. The influence of early hollywood werewolves has even contributed to the shifting of Hypertrichosis was being seen as relating to Wildman and shifting it to being “Werewolf disease” though this is far removed from original legend (or is it?). Depending on the legend, the how you can become one and if you’d want too can vary wildly. From drinking out of paw print to a magic skin, to many other options. Though depending on the outlook it could be a blessing or a curse. Actual shape shifting, mental shifting, astral projection, or posession. Though given the vast, complex, and at time holy history of werewolves, is it any surprise they have become one of the most beloved and widely known beasts of European Lore?
