The Mardi Gras Arc
Carnival, Mardi Gras, Marche Du Nain Rouge, Fasnacht, Kukeri there are so many different traditions across our lands that all involve costumes, processions, and festivals. Disguising oneself as a fool, a doctor, a harlot or so many things we are able to both become who we wish to be and hide who we are. We mimic the processions across the sky and embrace the coming spring. There are many facets to cover and more than I can possibly cover ever, let alone in just a few weeks between now and the end of most festivities. However, I shall gladly share what I can, and in the spirit of masks and hidden identities. I shall gladly unmask what the Church took from us, the many "Saints" they used to cover up our beloved traditions I shall "unmask" several starting with yesterdays Joan of Arc and Saint George. Krewe's of Mardi Gras: Krewe of Druids
The Krewe of Druids or Krewe of Ancient Druids are a fairly recent (Founded 1998) and small Krewe for New Orleans Mardi Gras. They are a nonprofit based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. They take their name from the nickname for Tuscaloosa "The Druid City" due to it originally being covered in many oaks, which are heavily associated with the ancient Druids of Europe.
Druids are often egregiously thought of as a Priest Class. Though their role was more complex than a simple priest of modern day. They were both teachers and students of all subjects. Some were historians, others craftsman, some were tacticians, akin to Journeymen. Some acted as advisors or diplomats by their end they had grown corrupt, yet still when Rome came for them on the Isle of Mann and won, it was at a heavy toll as the Roman causalities numbered so that you could walk across the bodies from mainland to island. The Druids were no pushovers. Now they are no more.

Krewe's of Mardi Gras: Krewe of Dionysus
The Krewe of Dionysus was founded in 1985 by a group of Northshore businessmen with the intention of bringing a family oriented Mardi Gras to the City of Slidell, Louisiana. They chose Dionysus as their name in honor of the god of Winemaking and Inspired Madness.
Dionysus is an ancient Greek god, and is one of the most interesting and complex and misrepresented deities of that area. Originally a wandering deity with a large bushy beard and horns, with chthonic elements roaming around dolling out insanity, these elements still exist in some ways with the Wild Women who Dionysus drives mad and venerate him in the wilds naked or cloaked in leopard skins. Dionysus is also a war god associated with the conquest of India. However, after the elites of the time became corrupt the bestial followers and powerful wine of his Cult became an excuse for the elites to PAR-TAY, and they made him into a drunken frat boy, which is the version most sadly know today.

Saint Notburga is an Austrian and Alpine Folk Saint, actually many Folk Saints varying from a version of a Divine Princess Seer atop a White Stag, to a Mary type figure with many children, and even a harvest figure with a symbol of the moon. Though predominantly what these figures are connected by is the name Notburga (The Protector) and the fact that her story ends with being pulled by two White Oxen across a River to the land of the dead. This figure has never officially been canonized but has numerous pagan traces including elements of Perchta of which she shares a sacred lake with, the image of many children recalls the role of Holle in guardian of Infant Souls, while much of the rest of her myth is suspiciously similar to the Myths of Hertha (Nerthus), and her role seems to combine all three goddesses and more to become somewhat of a protector and fertility figure of the Alps both of Austria and Southern Germany. Message of Kindness:
With everything going on in the world right now involving new and old wars, “pandemics”, Government policies, mandates, riots, the list goes on. Remember these are all used to instill fear into the populace. Fear is one of the most powerful tools of War, but fear is a choice. We may succumb to the fear becoming paralyzed with uncertainty lashing out blindly. OR we can choose to be courageous and face fear head on. Be aware, calculate, act. Be calm in your choices, actions and words. War is our Brother, his blood runs through our veins. Death is our Mistress; we flirt with her every day of our lives. The circumstances in our lives are no different now than they have ever been. There has always been conflict [War] every day of our existence. Death has been waiting patiently for us since the day we were born. Nothing has changed for the Pagan man and woman.
The only difference now is that others now have to face what we have always known to be true; and they tremble in fear. Do not be among their number! Be courageous! Choose to laugh! This is a time of grand adventure! We now live in The Age of Heroes! Become the Champion your people need.
