We often speak of the gods as Extended Family, what exactly do we mean? Just that, the Gods are our family. Divine progenitors, ascended ancestors, and the exact relation just like family to family would shift tribe to tribe. The "Father" of the tribe among the gods would differ from village to village, same with the Mother, different spirits may have arisen or partnered with us area to area, lineage to lineage. There is a bit of the divine in all of us, each of us in a way is ethereal in part. We are effectively "Baby Gods", divine beings unable to fully access the beyond, but we can enjoy and love life and all the beauty it brings. When we speak of the gods we are not speaking of some separate creature or universal concept. We speak of ancient divine family some always gods others risen from infancy within us and the most beautiful part is in the end we cannot tell the difference. Our gods are ours as much as our Great Grandmother is ours We are a product of their divine spirit.-TLK

I thought I'd make an early start on the bear piece as part of the art series (wolf, bear, stag, raven). You've already seen the wolf. This is just a rough sketch, so obviously it will undergo significant changes as I paint. I'm also thinking of doing another art series of Fenrir, Hati, Skoll, Freki and Geri at a later stage. I'm almost done with the Halloween cover as well as two commissions. I'd say September has been quite the productive month.
Today I awoke to the sound of soft rain just outside the window. The crisp autumn air enveloped me, sleep still in my eye I thought "Melusine is crying for her children". It was an odd moment of peace, presence, and awareness of a mythic landscape. The beautiful morning mixed with the melancholy of a goddesses tears. I smiled, the gods are good.

The Alpha Bearded man
Nature gave us hair originally as a means of protection. It cushions blows from assailants, and insulates the part of the body it grows on against temperature changes, and harsh artic climate.
Eyelashes protect from dust, and foreign matter, and partially shields squinted eyes from too much sun. Our eyebrows somewhat prevent perspiration from running down into our eyes, while nasal hair acts as an air filter.
Out of all of these bristly characteristics, none can hold a follicle to the majestic, magnificent, fierce, and noble face fur that encapsulates a man’s beard.
Not the well-manicured, tamed, hipster beard. I’m talking of the grizzly facial hair that displays the full glory of belonging to the tribe of the North…

The father that allows playful tugging at his facial hair, the husband or lover that allows his woman to take in the scent and the feel of her man’s striking feature that is plain for all to see.

There are advantages to having a manly beard that naked-faced men do not have.
To grow a beard is a natural thing to do, and to cut or shave it off is abnormal. Is it any wonder since the times of our forebears, the beard became an object of anxious concern?
Hyperborean men first cherished the beard for spiritual reasons, and were convinced that as the hair that grew as an extension of his face, it was saturated with his personality. It is for this reason that it had to be carefully guarded from possible assailants.
The beard was and is regarded as the special sign, privilege and ornament of manhood. It should not go unmentioned that the cutting-off of beards was reserved for defeated enemies.
In this treatment of one’s defeated adversary, it was a sign of disgrace, which was plain for all to see.
Continuing to grow your beard was and is regarded, like blood, an expression of vitality.

The longer the beard, the more vigorous the man. It is therefore that our ancestral men reasoned that a beard was not only an indication of one’s virility, but also its very source, as well as, the seat of a man’s strength.
So what have you? Unless your profession requires that you are clean shaven, you are missing out on embracing a part of true masculinity.
If you are a beardless, I’m not saying you are a lesser man, but you are definitely not living up to your potential.

The Story of Snow White and Rose Red depicts elements of older legends and traditions. The Two siblings symbolize the seasons in their actions and names Summer (Rose Red) and Winter (Snow White) while each rest with their Mother (Mother Earth), the bear that shimmers like gold after having his fur torn is said to symbolize the sun or the coming end of Winter. He rests in the home with the two sisters and their mother and when Winter ends he leaves again. The Bear is often paired with a feminine earth/fertility goddess in ancient European traditions. With the Bear going underground or to the "Otherworld" and functioning as a consort to the fertility goddess of the land. Often arising with new life both in the form of cubs and in the coming of Spring.-TLK

Why did we pick Hyperborean as our title and our general name for our people when there are many options? Well...
White: "What about the Northern Chinese, What about this person who looks white but is 1/4 Nigerian huh!? Huh!?" Also naming your people after a color is kind of sad. The term also is used for Arabs on the US Census.
European: What is European? This has been said for centuries using Jewish migrants, non-native immigrants, and plenty of others. It also excludes the Diaspora and our tribes still outside of Europe.
Westerner: We are not a direction, and this inevitably splits our people into threes.
Aryan: While the meaning of a mythical noble tribe is appreciated, this title can literally be purchased in South Asia, and is what Iran is named after, safe to say not our first pick. Also a Non-Starter for most.
So why Hyperborean? Because it literally means the people of the North, a mythic Idyllic way of our people, and our people have used it for ourselves before.
