When we first began we jumped straight in and overtime we came to understand how to accomplish our goals. HeimdallR's Home became Hyperborean Radio to more reflect our desire for change, to recall the past to move to the future. The Wylder Folk just as with any name is a wish, we wish to awaken the Wild soul in our people, to show a better way, a truer way, a way that is ours, deep inside our wild spirit waits to roar forth, across the wasteland of modernity, the saplings grow amongst the decay. The enchanted forests of old sing the old songs that quicken our memory, and beat the battlefield drums of our group spirit, the bloodlore flows, the collective unconscious fires off, and together we can build a home again in a world where the wild spirit runs free. We are the Wylder Folk, we follow our old ways, we broadcast a message of hope and courage out through the crumbling husk of the age we live in, and as the age of heroes begins, we know that with the beacon lit, all roads lead home.

Go listen to todays podcast with Neale Rundgren where we discussed the importance of inspiration and creativity in any creative field as well as the difficulties involved when inspiration runs dry which happens to all artists of any kind and how to find it again. We also oddly end up discussing architecture and how all of this stems from the biospirit.

Today Freyja is often depicted with Tomcats however the word "Fress" which was translated to cat can also mean bear, as a result early depictions of Freyja depict her with cats or bears, before it was generally agreed that her carriage was drawn by cats. This was likely due to her association with witches, but in all honesty they don't really know. In other words whether Freyja is associated with cats or bears comes down to a translation of a word that could've meant either. Regardless of your personal preference the bear theory never really became popular and as a result Freyja has her cats and her boar Hildisivini, the cats eventually entered nearby Russian folklore where Thor came across two unwanted kittens of Bayun a magical cat from Russian folklore, Thor was tricked into taking the cats and gave them to Freyja. It is unclear how old this story is and it may have spawned as a way to explain the cats or it may be far older and cat was the correct translation.-TLK

Bride is a Scottish Goddess associated with life and the wife of the Summer King Angus. She is diametrically opposed to Beira the Queen of Winter who attempted to keep her weak and servile, however Beira's impossible tasks that she gave Bride were conquered one by one by Bride with the help of Father Winter. As Bride and Angus became husband and wife, the touch and power of Bride and Angus banished Beira as the Queen of Winter and brought Spring across the land. -TLK

"With passing time, its passage soon or late,
My bolts of lightning on the foe will rain,
On all who seek as slaves my people's fate
And strive to crush our spirits for their gain.-
But when the springtime comes with climate fair,
To Latvia's folk sweet showers I will send,
By day will give them clean refreshing air,
And to the darkness sparks of light will lend."

"To them in nature I will stay close by;
My voice of thunder in the sky will ring.
Of Perkons strong the name will never die;
The Latvian folk will ever of it sing.
I wish here now you other gods, apace,
Will follow close upon my guiding will,
And each one swear, at proper time and place,
For humankind a promise to fulfil."

- Perkons, Lāčplēsis

Valkyrie are often depicted as beautiful and almost merciful warrior maidens, in the modern day they are even paired with Pegasus like horses from Greek Mythology. However, while the feminine psychopomp and death god are extremely prevalent and important throughout Europe, their is a darker and more gruesome nature to the Valkyrie's ability. Before a great battle "The Choosers of the Slain" would go to the battle and begin working a loom of entrails from the future battlefield, using heads as shuttlecocks, and using blades and other weapons in order to make the decisions as to who will live and who will die. The Valkyries are hard to pin down nowadays as some are goddesses, others are woman, while in other forms they are a class of spirit or god all their own like the Nornir.-TLK

Before Europe began to travel the world and colonize Asia, The Americas, etc. The symbol of wildness and "Savageness" was the Wildman or Woodwose, a person covered in fur/hair from head to toe. However, after traveling around and finding most of the "Savage" races of man were relatively hairless in comparison a new appreciation of European hairiness entered the culture. Woodwose's became a common heraldic symbol, a new romanticism entered their mythology, and beards became a point of racial pride for Europeans and Beard Clubs and Competitions arose as a way of celebrating the hirsute and burly masculine beauty of the Hyperborean peoples, taking pride in being hairy like the wildman in comparison to the other races. -TLK

Mamuthones: Mamuthones are a Wilder Mann costume native to the village of Mamoiada in the mountains of Sardinia. They run deep into the very soul of the people and traditions of both the town they are centered in, and the whole of the Island of Sardinia. The Mamuthones are an ancient pagan ritual that has been attributed to the Feast of San Antonio though the origin of this tradition at times can be traced back to 18th century BC. Making it at Potentially nearly 4000 years old. The Mamuthones are part of a Procession that occurs 3 times per year including January 17th and February. They perform in groups of 12 and are led by the Issohadore's which are dressed in a bright red uniform and white mask which contrasts greatly the dark and grotesque mask of the Mamuthones which are couples with over 30 Kilos of cowbells with the bell being rung by a piece of sheeps bone, the Mamuthones also wear moleskin pants and dark sheeps wool to complete their wilder mann attire. The Issohadore's lead and protect the Mamuthones who stoically perform their ringing while the Issohadore's use their lasso's to loop young women for good luck and fertility. In olden times they often lasso'd landowners in order to encourage a good harvest. The Mamuthones start at about the age they can walk and do it as long as they are able, as the bells drain the oxygen and air from their hunched over bodies. With the Mamuthone's claiming “We were born to be Mamuthones” or that they saw the world differently behind the mask (Which is only put on when they have gotten the bells to sound correctly in their rhythmic movements). Even stating it seems as if they undergo a metamorphosis. Becoming the entity known as a Mamuthone. While the tradition is clearly tied to the change of seasons the exact origin and reason still alludes many though the natives of the area are said to “unconsciously know all the answers”. Dionysus has been considered an option or a way for shepherds to become tied to their sheep in an ancient ritual. Given that other Mamuthones feature horns or long beards, among many others it does sound possible. Yet the age of the ritual indicates it long predates Dionysus and likely his Roman counterpart Bacchus that arose from Dionysus being synced with Liber Pater “The Free Father”, especially since Sardinians were called Barbarians similar to the European's of the North for their unwillingness to kneel to Rome. It is possible the name of the Mamuthones themselves indicates the god or spirit they intend to embody. One thing is for sure for a thousands of years old tradition it shows no signs of ending and is to this day written in the very soul of the people of Mamoiada.
