“I have seen them riding seaward on the waves
Combing the white hair of the waves blown back
When the wind blows the water white and black.
We have lingered in the chambers of the sea
By sea-girls wreathed with seaweed red and brown.”
~ T.S. Eliot

King Barbarossa (Red Beard) is a sleeping king myth from Germany he is said to be asleep in the Kyffhäuser mountain range. In some myths he is watched over by Mother Holle, via whom he delivers prophecies. He is also attended by a servant who he will occasionally ask if the Raven's are still flying around the mountain. If they are, he will remain asleep until the people of Germany need him. His red beard is said to have grown through the table and it is said when it has grown around the table a certain amount of times the end of the age is at hand and he will awake. The story of Barbarossa is sometimes thought to be a Christian cover up for the god Wotan or a similar deity. However, this is unclear. Though Barbarossa does appear as a member or leader of the Wild Hunt. Sleeping King Myths such as Barbarossa's have a blatant Pagan origin with figures like Finn McCool and King Arthur being notable versions of said myth.-TLK
Snow White is an interesting figure in folklore. She appears not only in the well known tale of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves" where she has many signs of being a winter maiden or goddess in hiding but also appears in the tale of "Snow White & Rose Red" where she again holds winter symbolism this time paired with a sister who has summer symbolism and a mother who keeps after the bear similar to a fertility goddess. The bear contains elements of broader bear, sun, and wild man cults in it. In the Netherlands a tale "Prince Spin Head and Miss Snow White" Snow White again has numerous odd and goddess like qualities. This time she is dressed all in furs by her huntsman father and runs around in the woods with wild animals. She eventually marries a spider who gives her the gift of Flax and teaches her how to spin it. In every version Snow White is considered beautiful and typically depicted with her red lips, black hair, and snow white skin. They may be different "Snow Whites", though this is unclear.-TLK

Features include tales from German Mythology, the Origins of Groundhog Day, A Bestiary of lesser known spirits, recipes from across the land, and a short story written in the vein of old pulp novels. https://www.whitepeoplepress.com/product/europe-diaspora-vol-1-no-2/

Hey everyone,
Good news... our next issue of Europe & Diaspora is available for purchase. Please support us whenever you can; I assure you'll not regret buying a copy for yourself, family or loved ones, who have a palpable interest in European folklore. Also, just a bit of an update: my artwork has come to a grinding halt because I haven't been feeling well due to the relentless grind. I am taking a little bit of a break as I do not want to reach burnout twice within three weeks, but otherwise I am working on four different paintings, including commissions, art challenges and some pagan work involving Fenrir (which is looking spectacular). I'll be working on the next magazine issue, soon, which will be the Halloween edition. Furthermore, thank you for all the support I have been receiving by people who are purchasing my artwork online; it will make all the difference in the world.

Feeling quite whimsical today in the spring breeze and songbird chorus... picking produce for our customers whom we appreciate more than words can say...
This has truly been one of the most beautiful spring seasons I can remember. Tomatoes are in the ground, along with zucchini, cucumbers and beans. Though I'm content to stay with May as long as she likes.
