InToken moves to Stellar
Currently there are 24 million crypto accounts worldwide. We agree with Ethereum’s founder Vitalik Buterin in that the main concern of token projects should not be speculative trading, but rather how to make it easy for normal people to use it to gain mainstream adoption.
As we worked on enabling transfers in the Inbot Wallet, we realized that transferring tokens on a blockchain is still too difficult. If you run a token on Ethereum, you will need an Ether wallet balance for the transfer fees in addition to the token balance you hold there. It takes minutes to get your transaction confirmed, which is a long time to wait.
We analyzed our options. To gain mainstream adoption, we want to make InToken the most user- and business-friendly cryptocurrency that is easy to convert to fiat currencies.
Enter Stellar. Stellar is currently the 6th largest cryptocurrency in the world, focused on fast, cheap and easy payments. Stellar offers us many benefits and a limited amount of drawbacks when compared to Ethereum as a platform:
1. Stellar transaction fees are a fraction of a penny, less than one thousandth of the current Ethereum fees.
2. Stellar has a typical transaction confirmation time of 3-5 seconds, Ethereum 1–3 minutes.
3. Stellar supports federated account management. This means that you don’t have to store a Stellar balance in addition to the InToken balance on your Inbot Wallet account, or worry about how to pay the transaction fees.
4. Stellar is designed for smooth fiat/crypto conversions. There are many fiat pairs offered already, and there’s a new Stellar-based USD stablecoin coming, insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance. IBM plans to use it in their blockchain platform.
5. Ethereum is supported by more exchanges than Stellar, but there are a lot of exchanges that support Stellar. You can store Stellar tokens on your Ledger Nano hardware wallet, and soon also on Trezor.
6. Ethereum ecosystem is much larger than Stellar, but Stellar has a good reputation and momentum, so we see this move as an opportunity to stand out positively.
7. Ethereum enables for more logic on the blockchain with smart contracts. But those smart contracts also slow it down and create security issues. We never planned to be a fully decentralized, trustless network. Instead, our vision is to be a trusted, AI-powered business platform with automated cryptocurrency-based rewards. Businesses need a trusted counterparty and fiat currency invoicing for their agreements. Stellar is better suited for this use case.
We will update the whitepaper and decks to reflect this new situation by 15.8.
