Is that air you're breathing?

As I was coming into land in a major city in Southeast Asia the other day, I took some footage to show people just how bad the air quality is here. The PM2.5 level was approximately 130-150 ug/m3 (more than 20x the safe recommended level of 5 ug/m3).

Note that despite being just a few hundred meters up, the pollution is so thick, you can barely see the ground.

People breathe this toxic polluted soup day in day out, yet when they get a cold or flu, they blame their illness on a "virus" floating through the air, totally oblivious to what's right in front of their faces.

In early 2020, when people started complaining of respiratory distress in China, the PM2.5 was over 700 ug/m3. For context, breathing this air is like smoking two packs of cigarettes per day. Yet the health authorities totally disregarded this as a cause, opting to blame an airborne pathogen instead.

People can go months here without ever seeing a blue sky.

Wild.

Secrets of the Microbiome

If you tested the bacterial profile of each of these five piles of compost, they would all be different. Why? Because the inputs (i.e. the environment or 'terrain') are different.

Each pile contains different types of organic matter, and has been exposed to different amounts of sunlight, air, and water. These inputs determine the microbial profile. The soil is not healthy or sick because of the bacteria. The bacteria are simply a reflection (i.e. consequence) of the inputs.

Similarly, your gut microbiome is determined entirely by inputs. The food you eat, the water you drink, the thoughts you think, the air you breathe, the exercise you do, and the sleep you get, all determine your bacterial profile.

It's a futile exercise to test the microbiome to work out why you are sick or why you are healthy because the bacteria are not the determining factor. The inputs are.

The germ is nothing, the terrain is everything.

Are herbs working because they suppress symptoms?

Some people assert that herbal medicines 'work' because they are toxic and simply suppress symptoms, like a drug.

There are several ways in which this claim can be shown to be incorrect. One such example is โ€˜wound healingโ€™.

A number of experiments in humans and animals have shown that when used topically and/or internally herbal medicines result in;

1. Wounds healing faster and stronger
2. Improved tissue integrity
3. Reduced tissue death (i.e. necrosis)
4. Minimised 'infection' rates (because of the reduced tissue necrosis)
5. Reduced scar tissue formation

If herbs were simply working by โ€˜suppressing symptomsโ€™, then they should result in slower and weaker healing, more scar tissue formation, and increased tissue necrosis, but this is not the case.

Plant medicines work by augmenting the body's innate repair mechanisms, not hindering it.

How do you get away with spraying four billion tons of poison on to peoples food every single year?

Simply tell them them itโ€™s the naturally occurring compounds inside the food making them sick, not the poison.

Nutrition has become so over-complicated, it's absurd.

Keep it simple.

- Eat a variety of whole, real food.
- Eat seasonally, locally, and fresh.
- Eat organic, biodynamic, or spray-free produce.
- Eat food that is grown sustainably, and regeneratively.
- Eat what your ancestors ate and prepare it the way they did.
- Create your meals with time, care, love, and attention.
- Enjoy your food mindfully, with the people you care about.

Everything else is noise.

There seems to be a growing trend where people claim that 'plants are toxic', and blame them for all of humanity's modern health woes.

This claim is touted as fact, but is there any truth to it?

I was a carnivore for many years and parroted the same nonsense about plants until I started looking at the evidence for myself. I trawled through the literature looking for proof showing the consumption of plants in the diet 'causes disease'. After years of searching, I have found a grand total of nothing. That is, there are no scientific experiments demonstrating a cause-and-effect relationship between plants and disease.

Might there be some plants out there that are 'toxic', sure, but our ancestors worked out how to properly prepare these foods, and consume them as part of their staple diet, for hundreds, if not thousands of years, without consequence. Last time I checked, no one was walking around eating handfuls of raw fava beans.

If you believe that edible plants are toxic, and cause disease, it should be a relatively straightforward thing to prove.

1. Provide evidence showing that the consumption of an isolated compound (i.e. a lectin, lignan, oxalate, etc) causes a specific disease in humans.

Even if this evidence exists, it doesn't reflect natural dietary practices, so additional evidence to support the claim is required.

2. Provide evidence showing the consumption of a plant containing the above-mentioned compound, prepared properly, causes disease in humans.

No one will ever be able to do it? Why, because this evidence doesn't exist. Why doesn't it exist? Because the consumption of plants in the diet does not cause disease.

It would seem that people who spout this rhetoric, are simply telling a story devoid of sound logic and evidence.

It's high time we put an end to this woeful practice of blaming mother nature for our man-made problems. As long as we are spraying our food with poison, growing it in contaminated soil, deviating away from traditional agricultural practices and food preparation techniques, and adulterating the living crap out of our food, no one gets to point the finger at the plant.

Imagine someone goes to a butcher & buys a piece of steak. They take the steak home, cook it up, and feast on it, only to become ill soon after.

Obviously displeased, they go back to the butcher asking for an explanation.

Imagine the butcher admits that they are getting their meat from a new supplier who feeds their cows poison, & pumps the animals full of antibiotics & hormones. To top it off, the butcher sprays the steak with poison just before selling it. The butcher says not to worry because new research claims naturally occurring compounds in the meat, not the poison, are making people sick.

Would anyone in their right mind accept this explanation from the butcher? Would anyone believe this fantastical tale, or would they be outraged, demanding the butcher finds a new supplier & stops spraying poison on their food?

No one would accept this non-sensical story when it comes to meat, yet so many are willing to swallow it when it comes to plants.

We live in wild times.

Remember when science claimed eggs and red meat caused disease because of the cholesterol, saturated fat, and protein content?

Well no one believes that anymore...Why? It's not because those claims were ever disproven, but because they were never proven to begin with. A cause-and-effect relationship was never established. So-called 'scientists' simply parroted non-sense and the mindless masses gobbled it up.

It's now become trendy to blame plants as the cause of disease. But a critical thinker can see the exact same thing that happened to eggs and red meat is currently happening to plants. No cause-and-effect relationship has ever been established, yet people regurgitate this tripe as though it's a proven fact.

When are people going to realise nature is being used as a scapegoat for the true cause of disease?

Next year plants will fall out of the limelight, only to be replaced by something else, whilst the true causes of disease continue flying under the radar.

When Paul Zimmer-Harwood volunteered to be intentionally infected with SARS-CoV-2, he wasnโ€™t sure what to expect. He was ready for a repeat of his first brush with COVID-19, through a naturally acquired infection that gave him influenza-like symptoms. But he hoped his immunity would help him feel well enough to use the indoor bicycle trainer that he had brought into quarantine.

It turned out that Zimmer-Harwood, a PhD student at University of Oxford, UK, had nothing to worry about. Neither he nor any of the 35 other people who participated in the โ€˜challengeโ€™ trial actually got COVID-19.

When nobody developed a sustained infection, the researchers increased the dose by more and more in subsequent groups of participants, until they reached a level 10,000 times the initial dose.

I wonder why nobody got sick....

French philosopher Jean-Jacque Rousseau wrote this back in 1755.

When living in harmony with nature, humans are largely free of disease.

Nature doesn't do disease, Western society does.

When humans live in harmony with nature, they are free from disease. This means disease is a consequence of modern society.

"The people live a very long time here, they do not become ill; they never catch plague; nor suffer from respiratory disorders; they die just for natural reasons".

Amerigo Vespucci (Explorer) โ€“ 1502

โ€œIt is rare to hear of a sick person, they never saw any of the natives, either paralytic, bleareyed, toothless, or crooked with ageโ€.

Michel de Montaigne (Philosopher) โ€“ 1580

โ€œBefore foreigners came, there were no fatal diseases, no epidemics, no contagious diseases, no diseases that eat away at the body, and no venereal diseases".

Sameul Kamakau (Historian) โ€“ 1870

โ€œNative American people simply did not very often die from illness before the Europeans cameโ€.

Henry Dobyns (Anthropologist) โ€“ 1983

Does inflammation cause disease?

If inflammation causes disease, this means that a completely healthy person can be walking down the street, minding their own business, then from out of nowhere 'inflammation' floods the body with the sole purpose of destroying healthy tissue.

Does anybody truly believe this, or are people simply confused about what's really going on?

Inflammation is the body's healing response. It's not the cause of disease. Tissue damage (caused by negative external inputs - i.e. toxins, poisons, physical trauma etc) occurs first. The body responds to this damage by mounting an inflammatory response (i.e. healing). People see tissue damage and inflammation in the same place, and come to an erroneous conclusion that inflammation must be the cause.

Talk about putting the horse before the cart.

The truth about inflammation, is that it is a conservative and regenerative process.

Inflammation is not the enemy, it's the body's healing response.

It's not out to harm you, or cause disease. It's there to repair the damage done to tissue from a harmful external input.

The tissue damage happens FIRST, followed by the inflammatory response (i.e. healing response).

Tissue damage (cause). Inflammation (effect).

The Bean People of Sonora

The Oโ€™odham people thrived in the harsh climate of the Sonoran desert for millennia. Spanish explorers nicknamed them the Papago, or โ€œbean peopleโ€, because their diet consisted primarily of mesquite beans, ironwood seeds, palo verde pods, acacia pods, red, white and yellow tepary beans, and lima beans. They also ate acorns, prickly pear cactus, and cholla buds. When Europeans made contact with the Oโ€™odham, they described them as exceptionally healthy and physically fit people.

If plants cause disease, how were the Oโ€™odham able to consume a wide range of vegetation, whilst maintaining an exceptional standard of health?

Maybe the simple answer is, eating plants doesnโ€™t cause disease.

What really happened during the Spanish Flu?

We are told that the H1N1 virus swept across the world, but was something else going on?

The symptoms of the Spanish Flu included;

- Coughing up blood
- Shortness of breath
- Right-sided heart failure
- Fluid accumulation in the lungs
- Body odour of musty hay, or straw
- Purplish-black skin discoloration (heliotrope cyanosis)

These symptoms are exactly the same as phosgene gas poisoning, a chemical warfare agent used during WWI. The damage to the body was so similar, that during autopsies, pathologists could not tell the difference between gas victims and those who had died of the flu.

Interestingly, the military and media outlets published reports of enemy spies deploying canisters of โ€˜flu germsโ€™ in the streets, shopping centers, and cinemas of major cities. Were they really using โ€˜germsโ€™ or something far more insidious?

All of this and much more is discussed in my new book Can You Catch A Cold?
