There is Only One Disease
We are told there are thousands of different diseases, with hundreds of different causes. We are told that disease is a normal part of life, that the body is somehow imperfect, or broken and that it is doing something wrong. We are told that disease is a bad thing, that symptoms are the problem and symptom suppression is the only answer. But what if our understanding is completely misguided?
When you get a splinter in your finger, what happens? You get symptoms like pain, redness and swelling. Itโs obvious that these symptoms didnโt cause the splinter, nor would we define it as a โsplinter diseaseโ. The symptoms are clearly the body's response to the splinter. When you really think about it, are the symptoms not the remedy to the splinter? The body will eventually push the splinter out and white blood cells will break down any remaining debris. Sure, you can take analgesics, antibiotics and anti-inflammatories so that things will feel and look โbetterโ, but the splinter will remain.
When you accidentally eat something poisonous, what happens? You get symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea and a fever. The symptoms didnโt cause the problem, nor are the symptoms the โdiseaseโ. The symptoms are the bodyโs response to flush as much of the poison out of the system before it can be absorbed. Are the symptoms not the 'antidote' to the poison? Sure you could take an anti-emetic and an anti-diarrheal, the symptoms will be suppressed but the poison wonโt get flushed out. The poison could then be absorbed in a sufficient quantity that it ends up damaging your internal organs.
Now letโs apply this same line of thinking to cardiovascular โdiseaseโ for example. Are the symptoms like an elevated heart rate and blood pressure, hardening of the arteries and high cholesterol the cause of the problem or are they the bodyโs response to the problem? Could the elevated blood pressure be the bodyโs attempt at improving blood flow? Could the elevated cholesterol be the bodyโs attempt at protecting the arterial walls from oxidative damage? If so, then why are we so focused on the symptoms instead of identifying the โsplinterโ and removing it?
What if there was only one disease with a handful of causes? What if there are no specific diseases but only specific disease conditions, just like Florence Nightingale proposed? What if disease is not a normal part of life? What if disease isnโt the body doing something wrong, but doing something right? What if symptoms are not the cause of the problem, but the answer to the problem? We are told many things about disease, but is our understanding maligned?
Thereโs so much more left to unpack on this topic and I have only just begun to scratch the surface here. On Saturday the 1st of July at 10 AM AEST I am going to be presenting a live webinar titled There is Only One Disease where I will be taking a deep dive into what disease is, how to re-frame our perspective and look at disease through a different lens. I will also be sharing my thoughts on what we can do to address the epidemic of chronic disease plaguing modern society.
This webinar is available through the Humanley Health Hub. If you haven't checked it out yet, take a look.

Do you want to know the real reason why I quit my job as a university lecturer?
In early 2020 I decided to start Humanley with the aim of bringing high quality 'evidence-based' information about health and wellness to practitioners and students involved in healthcare. I was mindful of being as politically correct as possible. I didn't want to rock the boat, or say anything too controversial because I was worried about losing my job working as a Senior Lecturer of Nutritional Medicine at an Australian University. I was worried about losing credibility amongst my colleagues and students. I was worried about losing my livelihood and everything that I had worked hard for. I was living in fear.
As time went by, I decided I could no longer bite my tongue any longer. I didn't want to look back in the years to come, regretting my decision to stay quiet. Living in fear was not an option anymore. Over the next few years, I was reprimanded by my employer several times for trivial things (like recommending my students take a look at the Great Barrington Declaration) but I brushed it off and continued moving forward. The straw that broke the camels back came in late 2022 when my employer attempted to reprimand me for the work I am doing at Humanley. Not willing to play this game I resigned on the spot, leaving the higher education system behind after more than a decade.
Walking away from the security of a good paying job was a frightening prospect, but in all honesty it's been the best thing that has ever happened to me. At this point I would like to say thank you, not just to those who support the work I do, but to my haters. Thank you to the handful of students and lecturers who complained to my superiors about me. Thank you for the malice and spite. I mean this sincerely. If you never complained, I'd still be trying to work my way up the corporate ladder in a slave job, desperately unhappy. I thought that I would lose everything by walking away from that job, but the truth is, it brought positive change into my life in ways I never imagined possible. You changed my life for the better, so for that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Leaving it all behind means that I can dedicate much more time to the work I am doing at Humanley. I have had time to write a book (which is almost finished) and start the Humanley Health Hub. There's some great things planned over the next 12 months and I want you to be a part of it.
Sign up to the Humanley Health Hub before the end of the month and take advantage of the special introductory offer of just $247 AUD. You receive 12 months access to every single webinar I have ever recorded, a ticket to every live presentation scheduled over the next year, a live Q&A session with me every month, plus lots more exclusive content and offers. Hurry, this offer ends on the 30th of June and will never be repeated.
Thanks for your continued support over the years, none of this would be possible without you.

Inflammation Is Not The Enemy!
Why are we so fixated on suppressing inflammation? Where did this notion come from that inflammation is the cause of disease? Is there really such a thing as 'inflammatory disease'? How did we arrive at the conclusion that inflammation is somehow bad? Could it be that our understanding is completely back to front?
When you stub your toe against the door, what happens? It becomes inflamed. When you get a splinter in your finger, what happens? It becomes inflamed. When you burn your hand on the stove, what happens? It becomes inflamed. Did inflammation cause the problem? No. Do we call these injuries an inflammatory disease? No. If you keep stubbing your toe against the door every week, does this mean you have a chronic inflammatory disease of the toe? Absolutely not.
Inflammation is the body's response to a harmful input. It is the remedy, the healing response. So why do we want to suppress it or reduce it? When we think inflammation is the problem and focus on suppressing it, we are effectively at war against the body.
It's high time we change how we perceive inflammation.
Join me on Saturday the 1st of July at 10 AM AEST for the live presentation "There is only one disease", where I will be setting the record straight about inflammation, what disease is, what causes it and how to support the body's healing response.
This presentation is only available through the Humanley Health Hub.
Hope to see you there!

Last week during the live Q&A session, someone asked about improving their eyesight.
This is an interesting piece on Sungazing, published in the most prestigious scientific journal in the world, Nature.
The Bate's method which involves palming, visualization, movement and most controversial of all, sunning, (i.e., sungazing) was proposed by William Horatio Bates, an American Ophthalmologist back in the 1920's.
What do you think about this controversial practice for myopia?

Good to see the Terrain Theory being discussed on mainstream media by a medical doctor however, it's unfortunate to see Antoine Bechamp and the Terrain Theory being misrepresented. It's clear the presenter has a very rudimentary grasp on the topic.

People are aware that disease is contagious. But they're probably not aware that health is too, according to a 2021 paper.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8283520
This shouldn't come as a surprise considering a range of human feelings, emotions and behaviours like smiling, Iaughter, happiness and love have been known to be contagious for quite some time.
Can anyone tell me the thing causing this effect? Is it a germ? Is it an energetic frequency? Is it a visual cue? All of the above? None of the above?
Why are we not focusing on what causes the transmission of love and happiness, instead of sickness and disease?
Let's assume for moment a visual cue (like a smile) is essential for the emotion of happiness to infect people in close proximity. What happens when you cover up your face with a piece of material? Might this negatively impact the spread of happiness?
Happiness is contagious.
Love is contagious.
Health is contagious.
Don't forget it.

Inflammation is the body healing.
Signs are the body healing.
Symptoms are the body healing.
Dis-ease, is the body in an active state of returning to homeostasis, nothing more.
The body only ever responds to external inputs, it doesn't cause disease. The tissue damage comes first (from an external input), then the body has to heal itself.
The body doesn't attack itself, nor does the body create inflammation out of thin air and start damaging its own tissue.
Everything the body does is in your best interests.
Mother nature isn't out to get you.
Once upon a time, medicine used to know this fact, maybe they forgot?
Published in Braithwaite's Retrospect of Medicine, 1860.

Is sepsis caused by bacteria?
It seems as though there were medical experiments undertaken in the late 1800's which demonstrated sepsis could be caused via the injection of sterile solutions - disproving the theory that sepsis is caused by bacteria.
Is this true, or were these doctors mistaken? If they're mistaken, please refer me to the scientific paper demonstrating sepsis is caused by bacteria.
Thank you.

Have you heard people talking about the germ theory + terrain theory duality? There is this notion there are pathogenic microorganisms that can cause disease if your 'terrain isn't healthy'.
What do you think? Are both terrain and the germ theory valid, or is it just one or the other?
*Note* I do not agree with most of the points in this table, it has been forwarded from another page.
