看到的一个TLDR:
- The old VC model was fueled by: ZIRP, legibility (you know what stage the (SaaS) co is at and exactly what it should be worth at that stage due to huge data from its metrics), public market comps + demand for factory-farmed SaaS. This is totally dead for the forseeable future.
- Everyone is trying to invest earlier now, bc the old stage-model is broken and everyone knows it. This is making seed crowded, expensive, and eventually will be at risk of pay-to-play rounds wiping out earlier investors when the cos become late-stage and desperately need capital
- AI (LLMs) is not a disruptive tech, but an extensive one. Ie incumbents (big tech) are in a superior tactical situation compared to startups to capitalize on it and extend their lead rather than be disrupted by it.
- AI is advancing too fast, which is causing startups playing in it to be quickly disrupted by new startups (or incumbents). It's also open source enough.
Its hard for AI startups to have lock-in, just based on their AI tech, meaning the buisiness will be ultra competitive, cut-throat, and low-margin, whereas incumbents with entire ecosystems, like Amazon, can continue to enjoy their lock-in.
- Hence, AI investors will by-and-large get crushed.
- Invest by prioritizing capital efficiency, not scalability (which would typically rely on many subsequent and large financings)
- Crypto as a model provides ample opportunities for companyies to be highly capital efficient. While crypto has many uphill battles ahead of it - the fundamental ideas and tech is so powerful and so disruptive, and the properties of good crypto businesses so in-line with the future of how we see seed VC being effective, it is impossible to ingnore.
