.@Azure previews @AmpereComputing Altra @Arm-based processors claiming up to 50% better price-performance than comparable x86-based VMs for scale-out workloads

Does the @Azure announcement to use @AmpereComputing for @Arm-based scale out workloads imply that @Microsoft decided to buy vs. build their own #ARM CPU?

Or is this an interim solution?

Asking @PatrickMoorhead @IanCutress, as I know @ernstdj & @bgorda can’t comment

The @NSF-funded #ACES system @TAMU is a composable #supercomputer whose magic sauce is Liqid’s Matrix software and fabric

ACES will have a variety of processors – CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, specialized #AI processors

RT @IanCutress: @HPC_Guru @Azure @AmpereComputing @Arm @Microsoft @PatrickMoorhead @ernstdj @bgorda IF Azure wants to use its own silicon, it's still a couple of years away, at best. They started the internal silicon team later.

RT @evanburness: @HPC_Guru @Azure @AmpereComputing @Arm @HPC_Guru the “50% better price/perf” statement is physical-only ARM vCPUs v. general purpose D/E series VMs that mix physical cores +hyperthreads. Customers can close/eliminate gap just by disabling HT on the x86 D/E series. Same is true on AWS.

RT @evanburness: @HPC_Guru @Azure @AmpereComputing @Arm @HPC_Guru Azure not claiming “ARM is 50% better than x86” in categorical sense, let alone for HPC/AI (which it definitely is not).

#AI at the extreme #edge with @HPE’s Spaceborne Computer-2

👏👏Kudos to @HPE_News for resisting the temptation to call it a #supercomputer 😊

Unless the current state of #AI can detect if the edit did NOT change anything significant in the meaning of the tweet, using an edit button would necessitate losing all Replies,

Basically deleting the old tweet and tweeting again
