Remember the Survival Horror game "Carnival Massacre", which was being developed by Silent Hill fans?

We had a post about this project when the first demo was published.

So, here's the good news: the full version of Carnival Massacre was released recently. The release was delayed for several months, but the developers finally finished the game.

> Game's page on Steam <

Carnival Massacre is certainly not as good as the true Silent Hill games, but it does a pretty nice job of replicating the style of old-school survival horror games from the PS1 and Dreamcast era.

So if you're looking for a retro survival horror with fixed cameras and some cool SH references, then you'll probably like this game.

I have watched the new movie "RETURN TO SILENT HILL" (which premiered in cinemas recently), and here are my impressions of it:

😱 The movie is very different from the game. It's not just an adaptation of Silent Hill 2's story, but a mixture of various plot elements from SH2, SH1, and even SH Shattered Memories.

🌸 The movie changes the explanation for the events of SH2. Such an approach won't appeal to everyone, but for me it was interesting to see an alternative interpretation of the story.

🎃 The movie's atmosphere wasn't particularly frightening. Not a single scene scared me.

🍄 The characters in the movie have little in common with those from SH2. Their looks, personalities, and backstories — everything is changed. And Eddie is almost completely erased from the plot (he only appears in one scene).

👹 The monsters, however, are recreated quite well. And PyramidHead looks better here than in previous films (by the way, his helmet has a new symbolism in this movie).

👻 Overall, I can recommend the film only to those who want to see a high-budget Silent Hill 2 fanfic with a completely new interpretation of the story. But other fans will probably be disappointed by such a loose adaptation.

P.S.: In a few days, I'll also write an article with a more detailed review of the movie.

Recently, Konami has revealed new information about SILENT HILL TOWNFALL and released a new trailer for the game.

The events of "Townfall" take place in 1996. The protagonist (Simon Ordell) receives a strange radio message from a girl calling him to the town of Saint Amelia. But upon arrival, he discovers that all the people there have disappeared. And monsters roam the streets.

The game will be played from a first-person perspective, similar to FPS shooters. But it seems like the gameplay will be more about stealth than shooting.

Townfall is scheduled for release in 2026 on PC and PS5.

In a few days, I'll also write an article with an analysis of all the new info about this project and my impressions of it.

Remember the arthouse game "THE DARK EYE", which was featured in my list of the weirdest horror games?

This strange game recently returned from the dead and was unexpectedly re-released on Steam (under the new title "Edgar Allan Poe's Interactive Horror: 1995 Edition").

So check it out if you want to see some super-creepy stop-motion animation and experience the surreal and dreamlike reimaginings of Edgar Poe's stories.

Here's some good news for fans of weird retro horror games.

A few days ago, Japanese game "THE TAIRYOU JIGOKU" (that was originally released in 2007 for PlayStation 2) was translated into English.

It's a horror-comedy game about entomophobia — the fear of insects. In this game, you play as a girl who finds herself in an alternate reality inhabited by all sorts of deadly bugs, roaches, and caterpillars.

The game is somewhat reminiscent of "Clock Tower 3". But instead of psychotic killers, our heroine will be chased by hordes of insects in this game. You can download the English patch here.

Fatal Frame 2 Remake is coming out today 👻

I've already tried the game, and here are my first impressions of it:

1) The remake closely follows the original PS2 version in terms of storytelling and direction of cutscenes.

2) The village from the game has been recreated quite beautifully. It's a pleasure to wander around it while enjoying the atmosphere.

3) However, I still liked the heroine designs in the original version better than in the remake.

4) The combat system has been improved. The enemies are more agile and dangerous now. Even the very first ghost almost killed me.

5) The developers also added stealth elements similar to "Forbidden Siren".

6) However, the idea of conserving healing items has been nerfed in the remake. Now health is restored during saves, making healing items less important.

Overall, I like the remake so far. It's not perfect, but it's enjoyable to play and it conveys the atmosphere of the original version of Fatal Frame 2 🦋

Here's some news about SILENT HILL F 🌸

1) Konami announced a MANGA adaptation of SHF. Scenario writer Ryukishi07 will be involved in the project, and he promises to create a new ending specially for the manga. And the art will be done by the Japanese mangaka Gokin Ame.

2) A fan translation of the Silent Hill F novelization has been released. This book was officially published only in Japan. But now fans have translated it into English. You can read the English version here.

Good news for the fans of Fatal Frame 🦋

Two short stories based on Fatal Frame 2 (which were only included with the Japanese Collector's Edition of Fatal Frame 2 Remake) were recently translated into English.

The first story, "The Forest Where the Promise Disappeared", serves as a prologue to the game. It provides more insight about the personalities and psychology of the main characters - Mio and Mayu.

And the second story ("Butterfly of Black Flame") offers an alternative tragic ending for the game. This ending was not included in the remake itself - and only exists as a short novel.

You can read the English translation of both stories here:

Well, I've finally managed to 100% complete the Fatal Frame 2 Remake and unlock everything in the game🤘

I've received all the endings, completed all the side quests, collected all the diaries/notes, and even found all 375 hidden ghosts from the Spirit List.

And now, I'm currently writing a review of the game. The review will be divided into two articles:

1) In the first article, I'll analyze all the differences between the new remake and the previous versions for PS2, Xbox, and Wii. I'll finish this article in 2-3 days.

2) And in the second article, I'll talk about my impressions of the remake, and examine the good points and flaws of the game. I plan to finish this part of the review in a few weeks.

Good news for fans of Keiichiro Toyama - the creator of Silent Hill, Siren, and SlitterHead.

1) Remember the mysterious new project that Toyama mentioned last year? Well, the developers say it's already moved from the planning stage to active development. I hope the game will be fully announced soon.

2) As full-scale development begins, Toyama's studio is currently hiring additional staff. They're primarily looking for programmers and 3D designers. According to the job descriptions, the new game is being developed using the "Unreal Engine".

3) On April 25th, Toyama plans to hold a fan gathering in Japan. There, he'll be talking about his work on SlitterHead and treating the fans with the "Kowlong Firecracker" beer (this beer was made by the developers themselves).

4) Also, a new Forbidden Siren figure will be released in Japan on April 22nd.

I'm also planning to make a proper English translation of the article in a few days (probably 2 or 3 days).

Here's some news for the fans of Akira Yamaoka 🎸

The legendary composer recently revealed his new project. It turns out he's been invited to work on the soundtrack for the survival horror game "Remothered: Red Nun Legacy".

This is the third installment in the "Remothered" series, which was heavily influenced by such games as "Clock Tower" and "Forbidden Siren" (and in the early stages of development, it was actually a Clock Tower fangame).

The new game is scheduled for release in late 2026 on PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox X\S. So, we'll be able to try it out soon and hear Akira Yamaoka's new music.

A few hours ago, Capcom announced a remake of the old-school survival horror game "RESIDENT EVIL CODE VERONICA".

The game was originally released in 2000 on the Sega Dreamcast. Now, the developers promise to modernize the gameplay, improve the graphics, and "reimagine" the story.

New gameplay hasn't been shown yet, but there's a 3-minute teaser with the opening scene.

Judging by the teaser, the game's cutscene direction will be significantly changed. For example, the opening scene with Claire Redfield's kidnapping has been completely redone. But I actually like the new version of that scene better.

The remake is scheduled for release in 2027 on PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox One X/S.

Yesterday, a new version of the visual novel "CARTAGRA" was released on Steam.

This is a story about a chain of gruesome murders that combines elements of psychological horror and detective mystery. It was created by the Japanese studio Innocent Grey (also known for "Kara no Shoujo" games).

Cartagra was originally released in Japan in 2005. Now it's been re-released in English in an updated form — with HD graphics, voice acting for the main character, and new scenes. It also includes an additional epilogue scenario called "Sacrament".

Unfortunately, some scenes of sex and violence were cut from the new Steam version because of censorship. However, fans are currently working on a patch to reinstate these scenes and create the most complete and uncensored version of the game.

By the way, here's my review article about Cartagra. Check it out if you want to know more about this game.

The Japanese retro horror game "KOWLOON'S GATE" (which was originally released in 1997 for PS1) has been recently translated into English.

This game combines elements of dark cyberpunk and psychological horror, and its events take place in the Kowloon Walled City. Thanks to its weird style, unusual setting, and interesting story, the game is highly regarded in Japan.

Keiichiro Toyama (creator of Silent Hill and Siren) liked this game, and it probably influenced his new horror project "SlitterHead", which also has a similar Kowloon-style setting.

And the soundtrack for "Kowloon's Gate" was written by Kuniaki Haishima - the brilliant composer who also created music for "Forbidden Siren 2".

The English translation of the game was handled by Cargodin, who previously translated the weird game "Linda Cube". She spent almost five years working on Kowloon's Gate, and I'm really grateful for her excellent translations.
