Travelogue 🇨🇳China #7: Home sweet home
▶️ Chinese people have earned themselves a high standard of living, but somehow life itself has become standardised. A lot of people now live in one of these gated communities (=group of houses surrounded by a wall and gates) of high-rise residential (=for living) buildings that look and feel identical (=exactly the same) in the whole country.
And standardisation doesn't stop there. There seems to be even a standard for romantic love and a happy family life.

Travelogue 🇮🇳India #6: Sound Horn
▶️ It is conventional (=normal, usual) in India to write "Sound Horn" on the back of lorries (British English word for 'truck'), buses and any other vehicle that carry goods or people. The meaning is that those behind it should honk (=make a tooting sound with your car) before overtaking (=driving past another car).
No wonder the traffic gets a little noisy in India! 🙉

Travelogue 🇺🇸USA #26: German Supermarkets
▶️ So far from home and yet so familiar - German supermarkets like Lidl and Aldi are global players (=multinational companies). Their no-fuss approach (=being simple, not being crazy about details) and unbeatably (=always winning) low prices have won them many customers, but mainly among working class (=workers, not rich) people. Those better off (=richer) sometimes secretly shop there.
As you can see, they have lots of German goodies (=nice things to enjoy).
