*An Important Correction & Summary About Salat & Salam on the Prophet*

I wrote above that it is recommended to say Salat & Salam verbally atleast once when reading a written text with mention of the name of our beloved Prophet Muhammed.

Let me correct what I wrote above:
There is NO specific recommendation to say Salat & Salam (called 'Durud' in Urdu) verbally atleast once when reading, nor compulsory.

Rather, it is highly recommended (but NOT compulsory) whenever the Prophet's name is mentioned (whether once or more times), to say verbally the Salat & Salam verbally on our beloved Prophet. This is the understanding of a vast majority of Scholars from the texts of Quran & Hadith, as quote of Ibn Qayyim from IslamQA website (please see quote & link in next msg below). On the other hand, a relatively few Scholars understood it is compulsory.

*Writing with Prophet's Name with Salat & Salam*

A
s for writing Salat & Salam whenever we write our Prophet's name, no leading Scholar has said it is compulsory (only from what I have read so far) to write it once or everytime; rather some or many considered it recommended when writing.

And some of the leading Scholars considered it recommended to write it in full completely) whereas some others of such Scholars did not.

*Acronyms*

A
s for coming up with short acronyms such as (صلعم), some earlier great Scholars understood it to be very Makruh (disliked) whereas some others of such calibre Scholars did NOT see sign such as (ص) to be disliked nor haram.

*Generally to Say It Frequently is Best*

L
ets not forget, the more we say salat & salam on our beloved Prophet Muhammed (), the better it is, the Qur'an encouraged, the Hadith even more. However, it is not compulsory to say everytime (such that if you do not then deserve hell fire) as some people with wild near-violent emotions oblige others!!

*Based on Knowledge from Allah & Not from Blind Emotions*

T
his is what the Scholars, ie experts in understanding of Quran and authentic Hadith, have understood and thus written. It is not based on blind emotions, but on understanding of authentic texts with taqwa of Allah. Allah knows best.

………………………………………
*Ibn Qayyim, the great Scholar of the 700s Hijri, said regarding obligation or recommendation about Salat & Salam*

"There is difference (of understanding) regarding the obligation to say Salat upon (the Prophet):-

{1} Abu Jafar Tahawiyy and Abu Abdullah al-Haleemiyy said that the Salat is obligatory to be said for him every time his name is mentioned.

{2} Others besides those two said that it is recommended (mustahabb) and not compulsory in the sense that the one who did not say it would have a sin (it is not like that)."
End quote.

*Here is Allah's Approach Towards Those who Disobey Him, their Lord and Creator, and Do Not Repent*

قال الحسن البصري رحمه الله: "أبى اللهُ إلا أن يُذِلَّ مَنْ عَصَى".

Hasan Basri (d. 110H) rahimahullah said,

"Allah refused except to debase (humiliate) those who commit sins!"

*An Awesome Gem of a Legacy of Prophet Nuh, at Time of his Death, to his Son*

Prophet Nuh:
'"I will leave with you my legacy (advice): I command you two things and I forbid you two things:

"'I command you of, Laa ilaaha illallah, (ie There is no god but Allah), because if the seven heavens and the seven earths were placed in one pan and the Laa ilaaha illallah in another pan, the Laa ilaaha illallah would outweigh the others in the scale!

If the seven heavens and the seven earths were an impenetrable ring, they would be smashed by Laa ilaaha illallah (There is no god but Allah).

And Subhanallahi wabi-hamdihi (Glory be to Allah and by His praise) it is the prayer of every thing and by it everything has its provision.

And I forbid you from shirk (ie to associate others with Allah in worship and devotion) and form arrogance"
...'

Ramadan is Coming!

Are we Going to Roll Up Our Sleeves for the Ebadah (Worship) in Ramadan, inshallah?!!

One of the hallmarks of Ramadan is Taraweeh Prayer. Yet many of us among Muslims want to pray short Taraweeh Prayer - just half page per rak'ah for 8 SHORT TINY rak'ah per night!

And is that all to our Taraweeh in Ramadan!!! Is this what has become of our Taraweeh in Ramadan!

-----------------------------

*Steps How Our Taraweeh Went from Great to Almost Not There!*

- First many of us said, Taraweeh is 8 Rakah, not 20, so lets do Sunnah. Great!

- But the Prophet's (ص) practice, as Ibn Taimiyyah said, was 8 very long and beautiful Rak'ah.

- But fellow Muslims ended up doing 8 short tiny rak'ah Taraweeh prayer! Only HALF page of Qur'an per rak'ah in 8 Rak'ah in many Masjids/Musallahs in Taraweeh these days!!!

*So, let us see in next few messages about the Taraweeh prayer some sayings of top Scholars based on Qur'an & Hadith, insha'Allah*

--------------------------------
*Here in Next Few Messages is Some Awesome Inspiration from How Long the Sahabah & Those After them Used to Pray Long Taraweeh Prayer With More than One Qur'an Khatmah (completion) Equivalent!!!*

👇👇👇👇👇👇
*Length of Taraweeh During Khilafah of Umar ibn Khattab in Masjid Nabawiyy*

Imam Bayhaqi recorded in Sunan Kubra (4287) from the Companion/Sahabiyy Sa'ib ibn Yazid that (the then Khalifah) Umar ibn Khattab (r.a) ordered Ubayy ibn Ka'b (r.a) and Tamim Dariy (r.a) to lead 11 rak'ah Taraweeh prayer with people (in the Masjid Nabawi). And the (Imam) Reciter would read (Surahs with) hundreds (of verses) until we used to take support of (Walking) Sticks (to keep standing) due to the long standing (in prayer). And we did not used to leave (the Taraweeh Prayer) except close to the time of Fajr (Prayer)!"

*Length of Taraweeh During Khilafah of Uthman ibn Affan (r.a) in Masjid Nabawiyy*

He continued (ie Sa'ib ibn Yazid r.a):
"And they used to recite (the Surahs with) hundreds of verses, and used to recline on their (walking) sticks during the period of Uthman ibn Affan (r.a) due to the severity of the long standing (in the Taraweeh prayer)."

*Later On, Given the Prophet Said Pray in Twos and Twos and Twos,

the Sahabah in Time of Umar Modified Very Long 11 Rak'ah Taraweeh into Relatively Shorter 20 Rak'ah Taraweeh With Rests after Each 4 Rakah (offered in twos).

Thus, recitation over the 20 Rak'ah Still Added Up to Similar Length as Before, and Went Long Till Close to Fajr
*

Imam Malik reported that Yazid Ibn Ruman reported that,

"People during the (later) period of Umar ibn Khattab (r.a) {- and thereafter -} used to stand (prayer of) 20 Rak'ah."

- Sa'ib (r.a) also related this.
- Nafi (died 117H) & Shafiee (lived 150H - 204H) both reported they found the people praying 20 Rak'ah for Taraweeh during their times in Medinah & Makkah respectively.

- Narrations of 20 Rak'ah Taraweeh (later) in time of Umar are authentic and are not Shaadh.
[Academic Note: Some Tabi'een who reported those, indeed did not meet Umar (r.a) but lived in Medinah just after Umar's desth, heard about Umar and witnessed the 20 Rak'ah being prayed there as a practice since years before].

Recommendation of Imams:-
- Abu Hanifah: 20 Rak'ah
- Malik: 36 Rak'ah
- Shafiee: 20 Rak'ah
- Ahmed ibn Hanbal: 20 Rak'ah

All of the 4 Fiqh Imams & almost all other Fiqh Scholars agreed from authentic hadith that the Prophet () placed no limit on number of Rak'ah of Taraweeh. Sahabah increased it to 20 and some later on to 36 Rak'ah for Taraweeh.

*So, You Saw Above that Not Just the Prophet (ﷺ), but Also Sahabah, Then those After Them, Used to:

(1) Pray Taraweeh in Masjid in Congregation, and

(2) Used to Pray Looooong Qur'an Recitation in Taraweeh (Seems More than One Quran Completion)!

*So, What is Holding Us Back?!!*

Come On!

This Ramadan Let us Pray Loooong Taraweeh Prayer, Try Finish Qur'an Atleast Once in
Taraweeh. Plus recite more Qur'an during Ramadan, as is in Islam!

*Here is the Original Arabic Text of the Narrations in the Last Few Messages*
