privacy is becoming illegal, especially in the smartphone-sphere.
not only it is becoming illegal, (probably state-sponsored) infiltrators are also censoring actually useful information about privacy (r/privacy now bans anything graphene os related)

In August 2025, Google announced a new requirement: starting September 2026, every Android app developer must register centrally with Google before their software can be installed on any device. Not just Play Store apps: all apps. This includes apps shared between friends, distributed through F-Droid, built by hobbyists for personal use. Independent developers, church and community groups, and hobbyists alike [and also modded/pirated/alternative apps and clients] will all be frozen out of being able to develop and distribute their software.
Registration requires:
- Paying a fee to Google
Agreeing to Google's Terms and Conditions
- Surrendering your government-issued identification
- Providing evidence of your private signing key
- Listing all current and all future application identifiers

Keep Android Open
Your phone is about to stop being yours. In September 2026, Google will block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with them.
First they came for rooted users
but I didn't speak up, because I don't care about administering my own systems
Then they came for privacy focused OS users
but I didn't speak up, because I have nothing to hide
Then they came for custom ROM users
but I didn't speak up, because I always use the stock OS
Then they came for my phone's usability after a few updates
but I didn't care, because I always spend hundreds for the newest models
Then they came for my age
but i didn't speak up because I don't mind private companies having my ID
Then they came for my custom apps
and I was a bit worried but I trust Play Store apps to not be ad and subscription hellholes, who wants ad-free modded apps and alternative non-profit platforms anyways
Then they came for usability
but I didn't mind a few hundred more ads while watching a minute long video
Then they came for my wallet
but at that point I didn't care, I would have given my organs to scroll to the next brainrot AI slop video, and eventually they did take those
