“Revive the Sunnah of Takbeer.”
Allah, the Most High, Says:
“And [want] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.”
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) said: “It is a duty upon Muslims, when they see the crescent of Shawwal, to proclaim Allah’s greatness (takbeer).”
Takbeer on Eid al-Fitr:
- The unrestricted takbeer is prescribed from sunset on the last day of Ramadan until the imam comes out for the Eid prayer.
- The well-known form of takbeer reported from many companions such as Abdullah ibn Masud (may Allah be pleased with him), and it is the preferred form, is:
“Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, la ilaha illa Allah; Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa lillahi al-hamd.”
- There is flexibility in the wording of takbeer.
- There is no specific takbeer after the obligatory prayers on Eid al-Fitr, as mentioned by Ibn Taymiyyah in Majmu‘ al-Fatawa.

The six days of Shawwal begin on the second day of Eid al-Fitr (Shawwal 2nd). Be diligent in observing them and strive to fast them as much as you are able. Praise Allah for the blessing of life, for one may not be granted this opportunity again.
For those unable to fast all six days consecutively, it is permissible to fast them separately, like fasting on Mondays and Thursdays throughout the month of Shawwal. Consecutive fasting is not a requirement in this case.
And Allah is the One who grants success.

The sighting of the crescent moon of the month of Dhul-Hijjah has been confirmed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Tomorrow will be the first day of Dhul-Hijjah, the best days of this world, as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The best days of this world are the ten days (of Dhul-Hijjah).”
It is recommended upon sighting the crescent moon to say: “O Allah, let this moon appear over us with security and faith, safety and Islam, and with success in that which You love and are pleased with. Our Lord and your Lord is Allah.”
Narrated by Talhah ibn Ubaydillah رضي الله عنه and collected by al-Tirmidhi.
And, by the will of Allah, Wednesday, May 27, will be the first day of Eid al-Adha.
May Allah grant us all success in showing gratitude for His blessings and excellence in His worship.

The Prophet ﷺ said: “There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these days,” meaning the ten days. They said: “O Messenger of Allah, not even jihad in the path of Allah?” He said: “Not even jihad in the path of Allah, except a man who went out with his life and his wealth and did not return with anything of that.” (Narrated by al-Bukhari)
Among the greatest ways a Muslim should receive these days is sincere repentance to Allah and abundant seeking of forgiveness. Sins weigh down the heart, weaken resolve, deprive a person of the sweetness of obedience, and may be a reason for being deprived of avenues of goodness and provision.
It has been reported in the hadith: “A man is deprived of provision because of the sin he commits” (narrated by Ibn Majah and Ahmad, and graded hasan by some scholars). The greatest provision is the provision of obedience, and the greatest deprivation is that a servant is deprived of obedience and the sweetness of worship.
On the other hand, repentance and seeking forgiveness have immense effects. Through them, forgiveness is attained, calamities are averted, supplications are answered, and Allah blesses one’s provision and lifespan. Allah the Exalted said: {And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed} [An-Nur: 31].
And He, Glorified be He, said through the words of Noah (Nooh), peace be upon him: {So I said, ‘Seek forgiveness of your Lord; indeed, He is ever Forgiving. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers, and give you increase in wealth and children, and provide for you gardens and rivers’} [Nuh: 10–12].
So strive during these days to increase in remembrance of Allah (dhikr), takbir, recitation of the Qur’an, fasting, charity, and supplication, for they are great days in which good deeds are multiplied and ranks are raised.
So receive these days with repentance that erases the effects of heedlessness, with seeking forgiveness that opens for you the doors of goodness, and with a heart that asks Allah for success and acceptance. And increase in supplication, for guidance, righteous deeds, and acceptance are all in the Hand of Allah. Allah the Exalted said: {And your Lord says, “Call upon Me; I will respond to you.”} [Ghafir: 60].
And among the supplications of the Prophet ﷺ was: “O Allah, help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You in the best manner.”
O Allah, allow us to reach the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, grant us success in them for sincere repentance, make us among those who seek Your forgiveness, open for us in them the doors of goodness and obedience, guide us to righteous deeds, and help us to remember You, thank You, and worship You in the best manner.

Forms of Takbir
▫️ First: The wording of Ibn Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him)
It is reported in Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah and others:
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah, wa Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa lillahil-hamd
This is the most well-known wording reported from the Companions.
▫️ Second: What is reported from Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both)
In Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah:
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa lillahil-hamd
And in another narration:
Allahu Akbar kabiran, Allahu Akbar kabiran, Allahu Akbar wa ajall, Allahu Akbar wa lillahil-hamd
Note: Some of these wordings are reported in different forms. However, their origin is general remembrance and unrestricted takbir, without committing to a single fixed formula.
▫️ Third: What is reported from Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him)
In some narrations:
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar kabiran
This is reported as a form of remembrance, and it is not restricted specifically to takbir according to all scholars.
▫️ Fourth: The practice of ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him)
In Sahih al-Bukhari (as a تعليق / report) and books of narrations:
‘Umar used to make takbir in Mina from his tent, and the people would hear him and make takbir, and the people in the marketplace would also make takbir until Mina would shake with takbir.
As for the wording reported from him: He used to say: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar
🟢 All of these wordings fall under the legislated takbir during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.
The most well-known and strongest narration reported from them is the wording of ‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him):
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah, wa Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa lillahil-hamd
In some narrations:
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar kabiran
This is reported as a form of remembrance, and it is not restricted specifically to takbir according to all scholars.

The most well-known and strongest narration reported from them is the wording of ‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him):

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Among the words by which you remember the Majesty of Allah are: ‘Glory be to Allah,’ ‘All praise is due to Allah,’ ‘None has the right to be worshipped except Allah,’ and ‘Allah is the Greatest.’ They circle around the Throne with a sound like the buzzing of bees, reminding Allah of the one who said them...”
So increase, may Allah have mercy upon you, in the remembrance of Allah during these blessed days, for they pass quickly, and the successful one is the one whom Allah grants acceptance in obedience.
We ask Allah to grant us and you guidance, steadfastness, and firmness upon the truth until we meet Him.
