Here are my official comments, regarding my appearance in HBO’s “Four Hours at the Capitol” documentary:

First of all, I discussed my potential appearance with PB leadership. Enrique, at the time, was still in good standing in our club, at least locally.

When the producer first reached out, he dropped several prominent PB names — brothers who had supposedly been interviewed as well. I reached out to those brothers before agreeing to be interviewed. They gave their blessings. I was surprised to find that I and Eddie Block were the only two “Proud Boys” featured in the film. The other interviews must have been cut.

I introduced myself as a “Podcaster”, “T-Shirt Peddler”, and yes, a “Proud Boy”, but they chose to conveniently delete my other two titles.

The director and producer are from the UK, and they were producing the film for the BBC. All of the questions were removed from the final film, so there’s zero context to any of the voiceovers or answers I’m on camera saying. So, for instance, using my sound bite about “1776” being something “we” say to “remind us of revolting against our government” — the lead-up statement/question to that was something to the effect of “Explain what the term ‘1776’ means to our English viewers at home”.

Later in the film, when I’m discussing the “mob mentality” — what I’m referring to there is the entire mob of people who descended on the Capitol, not us Proud Boys specifically. The lead-up discussion to that sound bite was me saying that our club had absolutely no part in planning or engineering the riot. I was making the point that what went down that day was something sporadic, happening in the moment, and everybody there was caught up in the emotions of being surrounded by likeminded people who shared the belief that the election had been stolen.

The director selectively edited my interview to create a false narrative. The interview lasted a little over an hour, and only about a paragraph of voiceover was used in the film. Nothing I said was meant to be destructive to our organization.

I agree that it was a tactical error to appear in the documentary, in hindsight. I should have recorded the interview, as well, so I could post the actual discussion, which took place. It was not my intention to make our club look retarded. I love this club.
