The roles and responsibilities borne by junior doctors have evolved with our shifting demographics, rising medical standards and health literacy, and advancements in healthcare technology.

In this collaborative piece with @cryingin7eleven, we seek to highlight the challenges and β€œeveryday frustrations” that our junior doctors face in today’s workplace, and to put forth the key issues that remain a work in progress and need to be addressed.

Call for Best Practices for Staff Mental Health in Hospitals

We are a group of junior doctors in the process of collating initiatives/best practices from different hospital departments, teams or individuals that you may have noticed in the course of your work were effective in supporting doctors with psychiatric conditions, or that effectively helped to improve mental health and wellness in your department.

This could be department practices that you felt actively encouraged mental wellness e.g. shared distribution of clinic load; or specific initiatives e.g. Wellness Half Day Off.

If you are aware of any such best practices, kindly submit at the following form for.sg/smadit-bestpractices
We would be appreciative if you could forward this message to your peers so that we can collate as many good initiatives as possible!

The team is also hoping to conduct qualitative interviews with doctors with psychiatric conditions over Zoom to better understand the needs on the ground. If you're agreeable, do leave us an email to contact you at the bottom of the form. All information will be kept confidential.

This initiative is by the SMA Doctors-in-Training (SMA-DIT) Committee as part of the Workgroup to Support the Registration and Practice of Doctors with Psychiatric Conditions, supported by the College of Psychiatrists, and the College of Public Health & Occupational Physicians.

For further enquiries, you can contact the team via Instagram at www.instagram.com/jrdocs.sg/
