Once upon a time, it wasn't enough just to go to the butcher to have meat on the Christmas table. In rural families, a special “Christmas” pig called trefari was raised from spring to be eaten during the holidays. The Cretans carefully preserved not only the meat, but also the fat and the skin, from which the bristles were carefully removed.
They fed the pig with leftovers from the table, as well as with additives from certain plants. This gave the meat a special flavor. On Christmas Eve, the owner of the family would slaughter the pig and then hang it on a hook. The blood dripping from the carcass would be collected and immediately roasted along with the tripe.
Traditionally, before the slaughter, an orange is put in the pig's mouth to feel its last breath. Sounds like a real thriller.
I once had the opportunity to witness this procedure. It was certainly an impressive sight! (After that, I didn't want to eat pork for a long time)).

One of the most “wintry” songs ever written is “Let It Snow”. It was written in the hot July days of 1945. And despite the fact that there is not a single word about Christmas in the song, the whole world recognizes it as a Christmas song. Why? Very simple: because of the weather described in it, radio stations are constantly playing it at that time.))
Legend has it that Sammy Cahn (the author of the lyrics) and composer Jule Styne loved cold weather, so one day when they were suffocating from the intense heat, they sat down and wrote a song remembering the weather with rain, snow, hail and cold wind!
Imagine that for over 70 years it has been played non-stop and enjoyable.

Greek-speaking villages in Italy
Hidden in the mountains of Lower Italy is the village of Galiciano, the most remote of the Greek-speaking villages of Calabria. The people of this village preserve thousands of years of customs, traditions and customs, and the walk is a living testament to its ancient heritage.
It is known as the Acropolis of Greater Greece, and plaques with Greek letters can be seen at each site, as well as many Greek flags.
The Greek presence in Calabria dates back to the 8th century BC. That is, since the second colonization, Calabria has been part of Greater Greece. And the most impressive thing is that in these places the Greek language and Greek culture have been preserved all these centuries without interruption.

Meridian Zone: 12:00 noon. - 15:00
Night Zone: 2 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Summer hours of operation, April through October:
