If there is any junior or younger sister or brother of yours preparing or in/out of JEE 2018
This piece might help..I tried to be as honest as possible
****A 1.9 minute read..Exploring Life- Much more than JEE****
Congratulations to all who made it to the final list of JEE 2018
Your hardwork has paid off.. You must be thankful to all the stakeholders of the process who helped you, supported you :)
And yes entering into IIT is just one step, you should try to explore life and learn and make your life more enriching in any of the IITs/colleges you join
Speculating about this IIT is better, this department will never end . At the end they all are the pioneers and you are even in no position to judge them (yes you can make a choice of course based on your rank), however all of them will eventually help you to grow as a better person.
I still remember somehow back in 2009 , I decided that I have to go to IIT Kanpur (even though with my rank I was getting same branch in IIT B/ IIT D), and now when I look back to my life journey, I just have one feeling- it was indeed an excellent opportunity to understand my self in IIT Kanpur . It would have been equally great in IIT D/ IIT B/ IIT Kgp and may be little different as they all will offer you excellent opportunities.
You need to be very careful of what you want in your life. The antaragni (the inner fire) dies down for lot of people post clearing JEE , failing to realize this is just another step towards understanding of life. One thing in IITs you should try to follow is self- discipline ( knowing what are your priorities), many people will surprise you with managing everything and excelling in everything however one must introspect and not fall in trap of peer pressure . Many will take it very lightly there which again is not the correct thing to do. One must always know his/her background, how much efforts their parents have taken, and remain positively motivated to take that extra yard. Talent wise no two individuals are alike so what can help you- Hardwork !!
Do the HARDWORK there, make sure you LEARN life and subjects equally ( many forget that IIT is still an academic institution) , make LIFE LONG FRIENDS and enjoy these 4/5 years of stay in rightful manner (not the escapist means like drugs etc).
Coming to the PLACEMENTS and Packages , there are two illusions - one you should join one where the placement is great , and second you will get the one which is the best
At time of joining this parameter should not even bother you, in our IIT Kanpur people from Biotech go to Investment banks, so this is not the right time to bother , just enjoy things there first and understand
Make sure your CPI/CGPA always remain more than average (like 7.0 at least in IITK), it will eventually help you, though there would be some exceptions of people doing very well in life with lower CGPA but are you are an exceptional case !! It is always advised to trade with the momentum than a contrarian approach. The more the better always ..How much any one tell you at the end the CPI will play its crucial role . However a balanced growth is the most ideal thing to do ...
More than 8 and a good friend circle, participating in co-currics will be one of the most ideal situation <reference IIT Kanpur, can't comment about the grading of other IITs>. And yes post 2nd year one has to be serious about internships and placements which is also found lacking in many a people even in IITs.
2nd Lastly if you ave given IIT in Hindi medium, try to work on understanding English and you will need to work a lot harder and you must be prepared for the challenge ahead and start working on that aspect as soon as possible else you will feel the heat in IIT
Lastly for those who could not get in, remember JEE is (Just another entrance exam)- either if you think you can put the extra efforts, work hard again for it for a year or else this is not any failure.
NITs have been doing excellent and most students in NITs are at par with IITians. And many are much more talented. Same is the case with BIT Me

sra/ Pilani and many more colleges
I can't write much for other/all private colleges but one thing is for sure if you are willing to put extra efforts and the real handwork , be it any college , any degree you will succeed in life. These are just catalyst , You are the REAL REACTANT.
We see a lot of people losing hope while doing BSc/ BA/ or any degree , there is no need of losing hope. Everyone eventually will have to pass through the same 3-4 years of study in any college / any place , TAG of college will play 20 % part but 80% or even more is YOU and YOUR HARDWORK and your DETERMINATION
A college becomes great from its students and faculty and not vice-versa. Make sure wherever you get in make your college proud .
And finally there is a lot of Hauaa/misconception created that IITians are super talented , this and that. I have seen my batch mates , my juniors crying in despair and I could not have imagined that they also feel so much heat after passing the prestigious exam. It was like they must be very much well settled and now they will be always comfortable in life. It is not the case. Everyone is almost at same level and has to work hard to do well in life. Life is not easy for you then it is not easy for others as well. This is a basic attribution error we all make. Sometimes the TAG of IIT adds extra pressure even which actually is difficult for the ones who are in.
Of course because of their efforts in 10+2 they are there, but that is it. post that everyone has to start afresh doing again their hardwork again. Most of us just become good in one thing - CRISIS management, managing things in adverse circumstances !!
So all the very best even if you are in or not..Make sure you are willing to LEARN from life because the real LEARNING start now
And yes one should be prepared to LEARN things before dreaming to EARN
ps: I always write from the prism of a hardworking human, there might be exceptional talents but my views are based on the 80% of Bell curve.
View are personal and may be subjected to learning and understanding of my exploration of life and interaction with 2k+ IITians and 3.6k+ Non IITians . Everyone is entitled to have their own views and not completely regard/disregard others view points. I am still trying to explore my answers of life. Hopefully some day will get the answers..till then let us all explore :)
Thanks for taking your valuable time to read this

With a hope to help few wandering souls. It is my best piece till date on exams.. Do read it.. It has some of the frameworks.. This is how I connect life with exams.. I use my learning in life in any exam
I was like a soldier ready to fight for my country but ran out of ammunitions.. The journey then taught me life is much much more than an exam, life is a mega exam
' Sometimes accepting failure with humbleness can do magic.. I accepted it'

Some stories make you feel how lucky you are in life.. A simple story.. But is anything ever simple in life
Thanks to Aparajita Sharma to express this..and sharing with me
After reading this I went to someone you would know from the story and looked at my dp and thanked God
Not everyone is lucky as we make the basic attribution error... Sometimes on the battleground of life.. Luck and these are very small words

Read it and then introspect.. I salute you Aparajita _/\_
