In light of these revelations of wrongdoing, some commentators have been quick to come do PR. Their message: We all make mistakes and the ummah is not perfect and we should really not be too harsh against the leaders and scholars mixed up with government money targeting the community.
^^ this is their strategy because they can't outright defend Sherman Jackson, Dalia Mogahed, Zaid Shakir, for their involvement with and connections to CVE. So they do the next best thing: acknowledge that it's "problematic" but they quickly say it's not that serious of an issue and those who are making a big deal about it are being divisive.
But it is serious. And thus far, there has been zero discussion of accountability or consequences for these betrayals of the muslim community's interests.
Why do you think that is?
They are desperately hoping the controversy will blow over so that they can go back to their comfy positions as "Muslim leaders," enjoying all the perks with no accountability to anyone (other than their handlers).
