This is why I don't like the word "racist." You have to think about the rhetorical function of literally everything these people say. They choose their words VERY carefully and intentionally. Rhetoric is really just about manipulation, and the more manipulative, the better. That's all they do. So we have to do it better.

I can't tell you how many times I've heard Whites say "Not to sound racist, but... " and "however, just to be clear, I'm not a racist."
