World renowned architect Frank Gehry unveils his first Australian design, the Dr Chau Chak Wing Building, more commonly known as the "brown paper bag", at the University of Technology Sydney. A rare situation in which a modern solution is actually suitable for the preservation of an ancient heritage - the uncovered cellars of the Șerban Vodă inn in Bucharest.

One of the largest and oldest in the country, this XVII century hotel was demolished in the late XIX century to make way for the new National Bank building. And while the optimal solution at the time would have been to build the bank elsewhere, when the foundations of the old inn were unearthed today, museumizing them was the best option to preserve their heritage, especially considering that the bank building turned out to be a masterpiece in its own right.
